Is Kanter a throw away piece?

I cant understand why people keep making up trade after trade, and thread after thread about bringing in different bigs without having enough bigs going out.

We spent a 3rd overall pick on this guy.

It seems that no one has any interest in getting this guy on the court. If we arent going to use him, then we should trade him( which Im against). Its moronic to spend that on a guy you arent going to play. We might as well have traded out of that pick or down, and picked up something else.

This guy at the very least should be given substantial minutes as a third big. To think that we might have him as a fourth big for any amount of more time makes me sick.

I dont care if he hasnt proven anything or not. You dont pick that high and never see what he can do. All in the name of getting blasted in the first round with Millsap and Al hogging all the minutes.

So tell me, why are Jazzfanz so comfortable with letting him rot on the bench. Not to mention he is prett good already.
He was the #3 based on potential, not on current ability. Kanter is a project.
Compare him to Favors, who didn't play much in NJ, averaging 20 mins his 1st season and then a bit more the following year. And Favors had a year of college, which Kanter didn't. Enes generally fought pretty hard when he was in the games last year. But he often looked lost in the offense.

It's going to take Kanter at least one more year before he MIGHT be a reliable starter. The ideal for him would be to get around 20 mins/per. See if he can be a rebounding force, contribute a bit on the offensive end, stay out of foul trouble and have the stamina to play hard in 10 min. stretches. He needs to be a dominant sub before you count on him as a starter playing 30 mins per game against other starters. Frankly, I still have concerns about Favors. He still disappears some games and is prone to foul trouble. It would be a pleasant surprise IF he can stay in games for 30 mins as a starter OR coming off the bench.

That's why I'd like the Jazz to stay put and play Millsap some at SF. Have Kanter/Jefferson play the 5. Limit Big Al to 33 mins and have Enes can get 15 on a regular basis and more when the Jazz are involved in a blowout in the 4th. Favors gets 30 mins and Millsap 18 at PF, with Paul sliding over to the 3 in a big lineup. Marvin gets his 25 at SF and Hayward also plays some 3. That would mean splitting the 2 between Alec and Gordon, like they used to do with Giri/Ronnie B.

Jazz already have Carroll who can fill in as needed at the 3. Burks could be an emergency backup PG. Likewise, Mo is an emergency SG. I don't think the Jazz need to add any players, especially vets who would want PT. Keep the best shooting young wing (Murphy?) and perhaps a physical 4/5. Then decide at the deadline whether to trade Jefferson or Millsap. I think the Jazz would prefer to keep Paul, but they shown before that if they don't think a contract can be reached with a player, they'll get the best deal they can vs. letting him just walk (e.g. Deron, Ronnie B.).

I want our big Enes on the floor. I also understand that his development will require extensive playing time. However, I also want to win this season.

If EK is ready to contribute this season (i.e., 20-25 minuts of solid play a night), then losing Al probably wouldn't be that detrimental. If he isn't, then I think we'd see a drop off in quality play from our bigs that would likely hit the W/L column to some extent over the course of the season.

It's a tough call for KOC & co. I'm sure they've talked about this ad nauseum.

I'd prefer that , too, but I think my earlier statement is a more realistic hope. I have full confidence in Kanter, but I think KOC likes to play it safe and will want to make sure he's ready.

That makes sense, given how the Jazz generally do things. I think Al would either get traded before the season or at the trade deadline if the Jazz aren't doing well. But if the Jazz still have Al and are in the playoff hunt at the trade deadline, they won't trade him.

Insta-classic.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to BluesRocker again."

Damn. Can somebody neg-rep BluesRocker for me? I can't do it again yet.

No, in fact I am repping him just for this.

there is a lot of middle ground between 13 mpg and being a starter who rarely leaves the floor. enes can certainly take steps toward the latter this year, but don't expect him to become an overnight star.

he is a 20-year-old who has a grand total of 874 minutes playing high-level competitive basketball. with him, we have to trust in the process and not demand immediate returns. that means it will probably be a while before he starts, and that's ok.

I like Enes and think he has a ton of potential. But if you think he was ready for big minutes last year your were not watching. He was terrible on offense and Vulnerable on defense.

That said, I still wish he had played big minutes for the reasons stated by Franklin. The young guys could have learned a lot with the playing time and the draft picks we could have had this season would have been great.

:mad::mad:I wanted to trade Jefferson and Harris away for late 1sts and cap space last season, letting Kanter and Favors have plenty of minutes while all but assuring the Jazz a fifth or better pick in the draft and GSW's #9.:mad::mad:

Kantor, Favors
Favors, Millsap
Williams,Hayward, Barnes, Favors
Hayward, Burks, Favors
Mo, Lillard, Burks, Favors

That team gives me something to get excited over.
LOL I read this post 3 times before realizing he had Favors backing up at every position.
