Is Mo already the team leader?

This team SORELY missed REAL (read: not lip service and BS press quotes) leadership last year. Al simply cant be the leader, IMO, based off his unwillingness to play anything resembling defense, Paul is a low key guy and isn't a cheerleader type but does it on the court, the rest are too young. Harris simply was NOT a leader last year.

So, is Mo instantly the heart and soul of this team for 2012-13?

I hope so. I think that Favors and Hayward will instantly gravitate towards him for his "nothing easy" mindset.

Seriously, though, everything he said about mentality and leadership was SPOT ON. He is a totally different mind than Harris.
Great pickup. What he adds to the team will be registered on the totality of it. Quoting the stats won't capture it.

I honestly think that was a key missing component last year. A guy everyone could look to who said "HEY! this is how we do things" and set a tone from the players standpoint of how they wanted to be know.

Isn't that what Earl tried to do?

I think Harris' invisibility and shrinkage (as a starter) also somehow offset Watson's fire (his backup). Mo is still a very viable player in the league BECAUSE he works hard and brings the right mental/almost spiritual energy to his practice. Big difference.

Yes but Watson's limited in his leadership capabilities because a) He's a bench player and not a constant on the court b) He was injured and fell completely out of the rotation c) Although he was/can be effective in stretches, he doesn't really have the game that puts him in a position of authority. You can have great mentors and lead-by-example guys who play limited minutes, but players naturally gravitate toward the guys who play major roles on the team.

Mo - as the unquestioned starting PG on this team - is in a position where he can really put his imprint on this team with his competiveness, toughness, and professionalism both in the lockerrom and on the court.

PG should be the leader as he directs the offense. As we all know, never was Devin's thing. Earl was a bench guy, but did lead the 2nd unit. Mo, given his superior maturity should DEFINITELY be CAP'N.

When I look back at Mo's rookie season, it was probably one of the most enjoyable seasons I've ever witnessed as a Jazz fan, even though they only finished with a 42-40 record and missed the playoffs that year. Going into that season, the media experts predicted that the Jazz would have the worst record in NBA history.

Along with Mo, that entire team was gritty (including Raja Bell)...

Excitement = mounting quicker than Cyrone Torbin on Peegayphelgm's daughter.

If you look at how Derrick Favors responded in the playoffs towards the end of that butt-whoopin, you'd note that he also has potential to emerge as a leader.

I'm already sold on him. I'm assuming it will not take long until he is offered an extension or he will be one of the players on the team who is re-signed next off-season.
