Is the Jazz coaching staff=bunch of player development specialists?

Looking at the staff I do not see any big names. But then again Snyder is a young coach and it is maybe expecting too much that he gets a big name to work for him. But correct me if Icam wrong, the staff seems to be just a bunch of player development coaches. We need player development sure, with all the young guys? But ultimately we are also looking to win a championship. So who is the offensive guru in there? the defensive genius? The Xs and Os handyman that Snyder can rely on?

or is this just a transition crew which will probably hand over a developed team to a big name coach in 3 years? Thoughts?

His No. 1 assistant Antonio Lang played with Snyder at Duke and has coached in Japan. Jensen and Jones have been DLeague head coaches and have coached in college. I think you have four solid basketball minds here.
 
Yep, you called it. In three years, the Jazz will announce that Tyrone Corbin is COMING BACK!
 
Demarre Carroll is one of my all time favorite Jazz players even though his stint was so brief. I am still angered he wasn't kept around. I kept up with his season in Atlanta and read an article that he credited Quin with the strides he made this past season. Snyder is going to be awesome for our young guys.
 
You realize that the skills and qualities associated with "player development" are also the skills that develop in the process of executing an offense and defensive system to precision, right? There's a huge overlap in terms when you speak about "player development," "Xs and Os," and "offensive guru coaches," etc.

You have to have a vision... and while this vision needs to be very flexible and accountable to players' innate abilities, it also needs to select certain players and hone their skills in complementary ways.

In other words, PLAYER DEVELOPMENT is largely synonymous with WINNING BASKETBALL. And while I'm sure they emphasized the niche-set of skills we refer to as player development in their hiring process, I'm sure they didn't do this to the detriment of the overall vision of how to organize a winning program.

What Iam talking about is the absence of a NBA-experienced veteran mind, like say Phil Johnson. I understand Snyder is not Sloan. But, we also need a offensive guru, a NBA basketball mind like that ultimately to win something. Whereas Most of the coaching staff's experience is in the small leagues. Phil Jackson had a Tex Winter. Sloan had a Phil Johnson. Popovich has had several NBA coaches as his assistants in the past. We dont need just skill coaches. We need system coaches. We need coaches who can help players succeed at the highest level. Popovich is the benchmark they are competing against. How do you come up with a end-of-game play to score the winning basket against a team like his?

This seems fairly ridiculous. How much do you or any of us really know about any of these guys? How much did you know about Mike Budenholzer or Brett Brown before they got their assistant coaching gigs with the Spurs?

With all the player development coaches, there is no big man specialist. I think that is a mistake and I haven't heard anything about Malone working with Kanter and Favors this summer.

Maybe Malone didn't want to waste his time this summer. After all, if I remember correctly, Favors already knew so much he said he didn't need to learn a go-to move smfh while rolling my eyes) and Kanter had some knee issues and then surgery that has put him out a couple weeks.
