Is the Tank Back On?

A couple of stinky outings in a row. Do we need to trade for JLIII and sign Jr. Sap and Cooley from the GLeague? Rubio sucks. I think I can shoot better than him.

I think we're too good to tank and playoff experience might outweigh getting a slightly better draft position. Who knows, if everything clicks we might end up being very good in the playoffs. I could even see us possibly being scary good. At this point we are all in but that shouldn't prevent us from sacrificing the short term for the future if we can make some trades that make a lot of sense. As far as I'm concerned we could even relatively blow up the team if that gets us in a better position to compete in a few years with Donovan and Rudy.

IN OTHER WORDS... who the hell knows?

Nah. We still have the 4th best +/- in the West. I think it's just a matter of time before we move Favors to the bench to backup Rudy and bring Jerebko back into the starting 5. I think a trade is inevitable at some point. He's too valuable to play 20-25 minutes a night, but it's bogging us down to play both of them together and the unit has lost its defensive excellence.

Plus, we'll get Jesus back at some point which will be a huge pickup at the 4 spot.

Dumb idea. In my opinion, tanking does not work for one year. It has to be years and years of sucking to be able to accumulate talent. Even then, it's hit or miss when it comes to draft picks. Look at Jahlil Okafor and the Sixers. Or look at this year's draft: would you rather have Josh Jackson at #4 or Donovan Mitchell at #13. Zach Collins at #9 or Kuzma at #27? Higher draft picks only equate to a slightly higher probability of being successful.

Even once you get your Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, etc, you aren't immediately going to skyrocket to #1 in the conference. You will be a fringe playoff team for a few years anyway. So do you continue to tank? How do you know when to stop tanking and start trying to win?

In the Jazz case, they have young talent on the floor in DM, Gobert, Burks, and young talent stockpiled in Exum. Tanking would reinforce a losing attitude on the team and would turn possible free agents away.

And for practical purposes, how would we tank anyway? Usually teams tank by sitting their vets and playing their young guys who aren't mature enough to rack up NBA wins. In our case, our best players are our young guys. So would you like to sit DM, or just encourage him not to play hard?

Not at all... OKC was a schedule loss and we had them dead to rights and shots stopped falling. Houston is good and we can't play our BS starting lineup and hope to beat them.

no. We barely lost in OKC on a schedule loss and Houston is possibly the best team in the league (/vomit). We all knew December was going to be tough.

We are not in tank mode, but I do feel like we are in full on player by player evaluation mode.

A month ago, DL was going with the roster of Gobert and everybody else. Since the Mitchell emergence, everything has changed. We aren't as desperate for Hood to be elite. We don't have to hope Exum is great. I think we now know we have two horses we need to support and we will create a 1, 3 and 5 year plan.

It was never on tbh

Nope.

Jazz just need to get their **** together with lineups and hone in on a plan beyond acquiring top-flight picks. They do better in the mid-late 1st round anyway.

Win two games in a row and we are world beaters.

Lose two games in a row and we might as well jump off of the nearest skyrise.

Listen to Quin's postgame comments. He is happy with what we did right and looking to correct what we did wrong in games regardless of the outcome. Of course he likes to win, but he stays pretty level in spite of the results. This board, on the other hand, looks like a Yo Yo on it's honeymoon.

There is no tank. The Jazz will probably lose the next 4 out of 5 games or whatever because they are playing good teams and they aren't better than them, but then another stretch of games against average to subpar teams will come up and they'll win them.

I hate to say it, but this season might be some's worst nightmare as it looks like the Jazz will be fighting for a 10-7 seed in the west. So it's possible they end up with a 13th pick or so. And it's not like you can find great players with the 13th pick or anything, so the Jazz are totally ****ed.

I still believe, since it's extremely unlikely that we win the championship this year, that having the highest probability of acquiring that 3rd impact player needs to be the priority if we're going to have a chance at winning a title anytime soon.

That being said, it's clear that management has no intentions of tanking now or in the near future. And, although I disagree with the decision, it's understandable as we appear more than capable of making the playoffs.
