What's new

Is this why Hayward is starting ?

Bell's not coming out of the starting lineup. The most likely change that Ty would make would be to insert Howard for Hayward. He'll go with the Vet/Defense line of thinking.

Utah is really missing AK. Gordon's shot will return but there really isn't much that can be done about the inability to guard tweener forwards. The only guy on the roster that can do that is Millsap and he is one of the best PFs in the league right now. Besides he can't guard Marion and Odom at the same time.

Maybe Howard can do a decent job guarding Marion. But he's smaller than Gordon.

Anyways the solution to Hayward's shooting woes is to create easy shots for him. Utah runs a play that opens Harris up just off the FT line very reliably and even he can hit that shot. No reason the flex cannot open Hayward up in the same way. Utah has been using an abridged version of the offense so far. Get him open on mid range screens and tell him to shoot the damn ball.

I fear you are right billyshelby. The Jazz philosophy in general is a good one, although at times i think they forget that the team with the most points scored gets a win. If you don't score well you put a huge burden on the defense.

Yup, seems to be more and more relying on the vets, regardless of the outcome. The tougher the game/opponent, the more minutes they get. Raja disappeared in the second half against the craptors, but he stayed in for most of the minutes.

I can understand it to a large degree. As a coach, you have seen that these guys can get it done, have gotten it done for years. The youngin's you know are going to make mistakes, the hardest thing for a coach to see. But Ty is not thinking creatively or critically, just calling the same ole names hoping they can produce again. Bell kills us, especially after the 1st quarter when he still has his legs and can make a shot or two. But he adds zero otherwise to the O which is actually a minus one.

I would like to see Ty pair youngs and vets more. What about bringing Sap off the bench with Kanter, starting Favors. That takes the pressure off the youngs to score and lets them do what they do best: play D and rebound and run. Right now we start two bigs that do not complement each other well: both need the ball and neither play much D.
