It's all about PACE

I mentioned this in other threads but I think the issue with the Jazz is pace. We can't play that frenetic pace that so many teams are playing in emulation of the Warriors. We don't have the personnel for that. Ricky is more of Stockton-like PG. Crafty, a guy who breaks down set offenses. He is not a good 3-pt shooter which a PG needs to be in the run-and-gun offense. Also, because of the pace, Rudy is not there to protect the rim and you get mismatches with our bigs guarding smaller, quicker players in the open court. They just aren't quick enough when they're matched up in isolations. If defense is going to be our calling-card, we need to slow down the pace so Rudy can be in the paint to protect the rim.

Freedom of movement...

It's a fast paced league, as per new NBA rules.

Look at the scores this year. That's not because teams are emulating the Warriors, that's because of an NBA rule change.

what the heck? if ricky was 20% of the play stockton was the Jazz would look exponentially better. Stockton at ricky bricky ticky tank's age averaged 17PPG and 14APG.....with a 50% FG%.....rubio has shot above .40% 2 years out of his 8yr career.....

but to get back to your point, the problem I think isn't pace, the problem is that the Jazz last year really took advantage the lack of the refs calling "freedom of movement" now the jazz have to defend in different ways, and rubio can't defend his man to save his life. It's not just all rubio as well, you got players not producing favors, oneal, ingles........

so, you have that and then the freedom of movement rule has kind of taken the wind out of the tough chippy defense we played, but i'm still gathering data on that, because teams like denver have been good on defense...but there is no co-incidence that the scores in the NBA have suddenly been astronomically high. I think Snyder is going to learn to abuse the crap out of the freedom of movement rule on offense pretty soon and the jazz will shoot 200 FTs a game, just hope they make FTs...cos they seem to be in the gutter from the ft line.

I’m not sure you ever watched John Stockton.

Did I say he is John Stockton? I said his style is like John Stockton. Obviously, Stockton was a much better shooter, among other things. But he was opportunistic when it came to the break and picked apart defenses, which is something Ricky is pretty good at. This might've been as much as Jerry's philosophy as his, but that's how I see Ricky being effective. But Yamers made some good points I think. Foul-shooting has been a problem. But look at how we have been exploited by quick players, especially Ricky. It was especially evident against Toronto.

I think turnovers on all these inside lobs are killing us. Look for the lob but don’t force it. Jazz are forcing it.

We are the worst lob-throwing team in the league, imo. But the problem is that is becoming our only move because we cannot hit a shot outside of 10 feet to save our lives, so when they can sag off of literally every "shooter" we have then we cannot get a lob in to anyone.

Pace Mannion?

It's about space, not pace.

Jazz are 16th in fastbreak points and 6th in defending against the fastbreak.
