What's new

It's Kanter

Good luck to the Jazz and Enes Kanter. Today i saw on boards that Turkish National Team coach confirmed Kanter will join the Eurobasket tournament this summer. It will be a good test as he'll be playing against some strong guys (Gasol bros/Valanciunas/Bargnani/Krstic/Nowitzki etc).

PS. In case nobody mentioned it before, Kan-Ter literally means "Blood & Sweat" in English. Fitting I'd say.

I'm just excited for interviews like this from Kanter.

Quote from an insider article on UK website.

"I'm so excited," Kanter said. "I know the Utah Jazz fans are crazy and I love them. I will bring the team toughness and post moves, rebounding, everything. I will try to do everything to make the playoffs."

"Ooohhhh Jazz Nation! You have no idea what you are about to receive! You are about to enter the darkside which is Enes Kanter! Ooooohhhhh Jazz Nation! You're time is running very short!"

He was also from same team in Turkey as Kanter, Omer Asik n Semih Erden. Kanter is pretty laid back n calm guy out of the court, but i wouldnt be surprised to see such comments right after the game cuz he is really intense inside the court

Burks Was the Right Pick!! And Kanter Will be Great Along side Favors! Trade Sap or Jefferson.

Just a few of my thoughts- Endulge me!

What Jay Bilas Said is true: The Jazz had the best draft night! I love the Burks Pick. Burks has a ton of potential- The guy can flat out score the basketball! Handles the ball like a point gaurd at 6'6, he's long, and very athletic! Explosive first step! The jazz have needed a guy that can close out games, and create his own shot, and Burks has the potential to be a guy that can do that! Needs to improve his shot, and he could be a legit 2 and closer. Has anyone ever watched how Boston closes out games? They put Peirce at the top of the key, run an isolation play and let him go work. I Really think if Burks has the "it" factor (desire, commitment, and diligence) he could be an amazing player for the jazz for the next decade or so. (of course, hopefully he does not pull a D-Will ha). it is worth noting that one scout said that he sees Burks being able to play PG for 15 to 20 minutes a night. interesting! We will now have 3 positions that can handle the ball very well: Harris at PG, Burks at SG, and Hayward at SF (My only concern is that i liked Hayward guarding 2's more then him guarding 3's)

Also like the Kanter pick; He'll be great along side Favors!! Favors can rebound and be our Rim Protector, and Kanter has a big body to fill up space and rebound the basketball. I love our Size. Favors and Kanter are only 19, so both may still grow. Both have great potential. If both do end up reaching even 75 percent of their percieved potential, We will have a fantastic front court. Kanter can spread the floor for Favors! Bringing his guy out of the paint will also make it easier for Burks, Hayward and Harris to get to the rim and score! Way exciting to think how good we can be!! Remember when we could not handle the Laker Bigs for 3 straight years?? they were way to long and big for our front court. Boozer, Okur and Millsap really struggled against Odom, Bynum, and Gasol! I think that has changed for sure. Favors is so nimble, long and athletic, and pairing him with Kanter who is big and skilled could be an amazing front court!

Now that we have drafted Kanter, we have 6 bigs... lol, yes 6 (that is not counting FES and Elson who are free agents. Thank goodness i can say Goodbye Elson!! :)). We have Okur, Jefferson, Milsap, Kanter, Evans, and Favors. If Kanter shows promise early on next season, it would be a great idea for the Jazz to trade Jefferson or millsap, and thus get some value where they have a greater need!

Jefferson has a fat contract, and it sure would be great to get that off the books. I think Letting Jefferson go will also spped up the development of Kanter and Favors. It's noting against Jefferson, but he really isn't good in the flex offense, and i think in the end his time in utah shuold be short lived (Of course, not sure where Corbin is going to go with the system the Jazz run. can't see it being too different from Sloan's).

I love Millsap for his heart and work ethic. he adds a lot to the Jazz. If he wants to stay, and is okay filling a role as a rotation guy i would love it if the Jazz kept him. I like the idea of Keeing Okur around for Kanters first year. idk, maybe he can help him develop in someway. maybe he''ll help him come along metally. Plus, Okur is just a grweat dude and perahps that will help in the Locker room.

if you have any trade ideas, i would be interested to hear them. Overall i think we had an amzing draft! I think the jazz could be a legit contender just 3 to 4 years from now. I've never been more excited to be a Jazz Fan!! :)

I wouldn't count Evans as a "big." He's an end of the bench guy - unless he makes a drastic leap forward in ability and puts on 25 pounds, which isn't likely. And Okur is at the end of his career. What we do have is two known quantities in Jefferson and Millsap and two prospects in Favors and Kanter. We saw good promise from Favors last season. I'm pretty confident he'll be - at worst - a good starter at some point and has the potential to be great. Kanter is a complete unknown. He could be our starter for the next 10 years or he could be the a Turkish Sam Bowie or Darco Milicic.

Same with Alec Burks. Does he become Brandon Roy (hopefully without the knee issues) or Kirk Snyder?

You just never know with rookies and I won't be overly excited until we see if they can play NBA-level basketball. And that may take 1-2 years, especially with Kanter. Hayward is a prime example of patience paying off. Until mid-season he looked woefully inadequate - lost on the court, couldn't shoot. Then it all started to click and he was shooting lights out, playing very good defense and looking like a starter. Favors was in a similar situation. The #3 pick and NJ had him parked on the bench. Now everyone on jazzfanz is saying we should trade Millsap and/or Jefferson because Favors/Kanter will be dominant players at their positions? I think that's extremely premature.

What I think we saw from the draft is the Jazz took BPA at both positions and the plan by KOC is to get bigger and continue to create mismatches at key positions. I was really thinking the Jazz would go PG/SF as those are the areas of greatest need and I didn't think the Jazz had Kanter and Burks rated a lot higher than say Knight and Leonard (or Singleton or Hamilton). Obviously, Kanter was rated much higher and I think Burks was due to his size. SF should be the easiest position to fill - there;'s a lot of guys 6'7-6'8" out there. No need to break the bank or over reach. CJ holds down the spot for 1 more year unless/until the Jazz make a trade or sign a FA.

So he could rebound against a bunch of Euro big who don't rebound?

I dont always rely on stats but, he had crazy rebounding stats in official youth championships, either in turkey and europe. He is rebounding against the best big guys of his age, even older ones. Your arguement is pretty narrow becuz, not all big man in europe goes to nba,and there r some very good rebounders in europe as well. Just its not easy to bang with those athletic n powerful guys in nba. But enes tells in every interview he loves tough game so i think he will be a pretty good rebounder in nba too.

I'll agree with this. 90% of Rebounding is effort, size, and fundamentals, which this kid isn't apparently left for wanting any of it.

David Alridge on NBA TV said that Kanter reminds him of Jeff Ruland. Jeff Ruland was a stud who banged people inside. If Kanter can play like Ruland, we have a steal at 3.

For any of the Jazzfanz from Turkey: how do you actually pronounce his name?

As far as I can tell, his first name is like "Eh-ness". Is that right?

edit: I've also heard "Eh-niss", "Ay-ness", "Ay-niss", "Ee-ness", and "Ee-niss"

The last name is trickier... I've heard "Can't-uhr", "Can't-air", "Cahnt-uhr", and "Cahnt-air". I'm guessing #3 or #4 is correct.

Ever since the infamous "City of Utah" quote, I think potential Jazz picks should know a little bit about the team. And wouldn't it be embarrassing if one of them said, "I hear the Jazz have a great owner. I can hardly wait to meet Larry Miller."

I think Alec Burks would have bennifited having this with the added line" Head coach: Ty Corbin"
