What's new

Jabari Parker

He went to one of the most decorated and premier basketball schools in the world, must mean he hates Utah.

I didnt say he hates Utah. Has anyone claimed anything like that in this thread? I did say:
I am sure Utah is higher on his list than a lot of places
Which sounds like I am saying he thinks highly of Utah and Utah is probably near the top of his list but not the top. Based on going to a big name college team with a history of winning I am guessing that is the type of team he prefers. I am guessing he would rather play for Lakers or Boston type team.

I actually haven't seen a lot of hate for Bartlestein. People don't like agents, and I think most people understand that Bartlestein is an agent.

Explaining my post, I'm not sure with how 1280 grilled him and Hayward that he'll be especially keen on directing clients our way.
If he's a pro, that kind of grilling should be the normal for him.

If Utah wants Jabari they would have to trade for him. The Bucks are going to match in free agency. If they wanted him now would be the best time to get him but the price will be pretty steep. I am not sure the Jazz have the assets to get him.

I also dont know if I want this Mormon kid on the Jazz. Imagine all the Jimmer type hype around here that Jabari would get. Also he chose not to come to Utah for college I am not sure why that would change now that he is a pro. I am sure Utah is higher on his list than a lot of places but I doubt it is on the top.
Duke is far better basketball school then BYU. He's Mormon but not dumb. Coach K or Dave Rose? I would have picked the school that will send me to the NBA, religion be damned.
But now that he's in the NBA, playing for the Jazz may be more attractive then BYU

Why is that? Did they do that for Thurl Bailey 2.0? Tom Chambers? Andy Toolson? Alex Jensen? What type of reception is the league's most prominent Mormon currently getting here -- Danny Ainge?

The Jimmer comparison is a bit silly. The overlap between BYU fans and Jazz fans really isn't that large. The Jimmermania crap came from BYU fans and an incredibly small number of BYU/Jazz fans. Jimmermania used to walk around the ESA in purple and gold.

Maybe, but there is no indication he has interest in the Jazz over any other team. Duke is a better basketball program. Other teams are better NBA teams than the Jazz. His Mormon connection didn't get him to Utah over other better choices.

In my mind he did consider BYU so playing in Utah may intresting him. He is LDS, so the quirks wont seem as wierd. If his knees are ok I would at least kick the tires on a potential deal. Assuming he isn't a upcoming FA. (Don't know on that have too look it up)

If he's an LDS person who grew up outside Utah then he will be in for a big culture shock coming to Utah. It's probably more dramatic for LDS people than non-LDS people to live in Utah for the first time.

Those other players aren't comparable. Thurl Bailey is still working for the Jazz almost exclusively because he is Mormon and loved for that here.

We already got a taste of at it could be like when BYU fans went nuts trying to recruit Jabari.

There are tons of byu fans that are Jazz fans. I would guess about a quarter of the fans in this board are also byu fans. Whenever you go to a game and they do some byu/Utah thing there are more Ute fans but still a ton of byu fans.

Ainge isn't a Jazz employee but we already got every story ever during this off season about him and it was a big ordeal. Normally people don't even talk about the GM much in free agency. Obviously his mormon and byu connection made it a bigger deal.

I'm an LDS person who grew up outside Utah, then moved to Utah. There was certainly culture shock, but I think it would be worse for someone without the LDS experience.

Where from originally (I mean if you're talking Idaho or Arizona or even parts of Nevada or Colorado it's not the same as someone coming from Arkansas)? Large LDS population there or very small?

I've talked to LDS people who grew up in places with very small LDS populations and moving to Utah changed their perception of LDS culture in a pretty big way.

You are way off base on this.
Jimmer with the jazz would have been nuts because he was basically the best, most nationally known byu player ever. He scored more than anyone in byu history. There was jimmer mania across the country.

There was no jabarimania. Jabari scored a total of zero points at byu. He wouldn't get the jimmer treatment if he cane to the jazz. I came promise you that.

I don't think Ainge being Mormon was all that big of a deal. What WAS a big deal is that he was the GM of the team going after Hayward. And he's known as being an ******* across the entire league. If any other team had been the main competitor for Hayward, and their GM was pulling the stuff Ainge did, I'm sure we'd be hearing a lot about that GM. In the anals (extra "n" purposely left out) of NBA GM's, Ainge has left a particularly nasty and malodorous brown streak across its pages.

No thanks to Jabari Parker. Jazz need to collect as many assets as they can in the next two years so they can make a huge offer to a star looking to get out of his situation. They can't afford to invest that much money into a guy with that type of injury history.

And as for Jabari, no. I realize injuries can happen to anyone. But we've already seen some players, for whatever reason, are just prone to them. Jabari could very well have an outcome similar to Steph Curry. Or he could become the next Alec Burks. The ONLY reason Milwaukee would have for letting him go is if they believed he was damaged goods. Utah just cant take that risk. Jazz may be good at player development, but they sure haven't been successful with injury rehab.

I agree it would not be as bad but it would still be obnoxious. It was already obnoxious when he was trying to make his decision. It would have been equally obnoxious if he had chosen BYU. The only reason its not obnoxious now is because he isnt here in Utah. If he was here it would have been. We have already had more threads about Jabari than pretty much an other player with no connection or interest to the Jazz.

Maryland. Small.

Edit: fwiw I did have relatives in Utah though, and had visited many times
