Jackpotting Around Episode 32 - Draft Love /Hate

VJ fits the mold of the combo guard you can't win with much more than Harper. Harper is closer to a point forward than the standard combo guard.

I also don't buy VJs defense to the point of it being so great to pass on a primary scorer like Dylan, who might ultimately be better defensively because he has more defensive versatility.

VJ will have to be very locked in on D for it to truly be a difference maker, and if we are trying to develop him as a primary scorer that will be tough

Don't get dudes logic in the Harper vs VJ debate at all
He had a losing hand already. I stayed silent as it really wasn't my place but you just gotta get the most talented guy at this point. Neither guy is likely to be a #1 on a title team but Harper is most likely to be. I think either guy can be part of a title team. IDK he was kinda all over the place on his reasoning.

Maybe I won't listen, wow.
I stopped (not cuz bad, but my drive ended). Dude had some crazy takes.

I just don't see what Newell does at an elite level. Dime a dozen prospect. Maybe he pans out into a good rotation player, but I don't see what he really does at the NBA level that makes him a starter.

According to the Internet Harper is 6'6 with a 6'10 wingspan which puts him about the same size as Jaylen Brown, just with a 2 inch shorter wingspan.

An elite primary scorer at that size can definitely win you a championship as the best player.

Dude comped Asa Newell to Giannis, Al Horford, and Cason Wallace?
I just remembered he also comped him to Camara, who is known as being one of the better current defenders. I don't see anywhere near that ability in Newell, even if he reaches his ceiling.

I kind of get it with Newell, but it's all projections and theoretical. He's extremely fluid for his size and has enough glimpses of skill where you can convince yourself he might be able to develop.

I'm not personally a fan, but when I looked at the film of him vs other guys his size in this draft there is a stark contrast in how they move.

I'm really bad at comps, but I'm at least aware enough that I rarely put them out there.

Brown is 6’7” with 6'11.75” wingspan. And I think he is significantly more athletic. That said I see more Cade Cunningham .

VJ is awesome but he seems like a one-cut-and-go Shanahan era running back. I’d like to see him add some counter moves. Worry he’s flying by guys ala Andrew Wiggins at Kansas which didn’t translate to the nba

Mottishaw doesn’t think a primary scorer like Harper wins titles in the nba.

Counterpoint: Harden’s 2018 team is the greatest team to not win a title much less not make the finals.

Doncic nearly did it last year and might do it this year

Harper reminds me of Jalen Williams (worse on defense, maybe better on offense), but Dylan's brother is Ron Jr so it can't be.
