What's new

Game Thread Jan 30, 2025 07:00PM MT: Minnesota Timberwolves @ Utah Jazz

Added to Calendar: 01-30-25

That was a really fun first half. It felt really good to be cheering for the Jazz to win, it's been too long. After seeing the score I've decided not to watch the second half this morning. From what I watched:
- Keyonte was very good offensively,
- we didn't have anyone close to being able to guard Edwards,
- Lauri needed to play more and be a bigger part of the offense/still doesn't look quite right,
- Non-Kessler minutes were scary,
- Clarkson was bad Clarkson,
- Collins and Collin were very good,
- Collier looks like he has improved his touch around the rim significantly this year, but is still a wildly inconsistent rookie

We got our asses kicked! But I want Flagg or Bailey so it is what it is.

And at least we have a solid PG in Collier. The guy turned 20 in October and he's improving each and every month. I will say it every chance I get - **** that writer who called him one of the two worst players in the NBA!

In the month of January Isaiah is shooting 43% from the field and 27% from three in major minutes. 7.5 assists per game and he's only going to get better.

Aside of the obvious, the loss and Lauri bad shooting night...

The real elefant in the room is how bad Jazz offense is run with Keyonte. Things looked semi ok in the first half, but when Keyonte played there just was mess. Players were hands ready to receive passes that kept not coming or they came too late. I hope his defense wont ever pick up so Jazz is forced to trade him it's an unbearable task watching him run the floor.

Not really. Collier started well but then several of his passes were either outright turnovers or not really on the spot. He does see the open players well but his passes often lack precision and put them into a tough position to finish. The truth is that the Jazz as a team do not have a competent PG this season.

Collier has better vision and defensive motor so I'd rather let him ride through some mistakes. I see him much more usable player in Jazz five years from now.

Edwards is a top 10 player with a top 10 defense around him. They arent missing the play-in. Just hope we get lucky and they get bad matchups in those play in games.

Jazz really have a way of starting out super strong, then folding like anyone's business. I guess it's partially other teams just getting out there thinking it's an easy win, but it also feels like we play Really Well those first minutes. Kinda weird.

I think part of this is that we actually have a pretty good starting line-up, but Hardy starts substituting everybody out around the 6 minute mark of the 1st quarter. He doesn't return the starters all together until there's around 4-5 minutes left in the half. If you saw Minnesota last night, their starters played the entire 1st quarter, and our bench just can't compete against that.

Is it weird? We are bringing young guys off the bench who cant really guard anyone (Brice/Keyonte/Filipowski) and a mediocre backup center (Eubanks) off the bench. Of course we are going to lose momentum at some point. Its kind of by design at this point.

If we average 1 Wolf per day we can really impact the situation.

1 down. 2 chances left. We need to make up for the first hunt where we didn't get any wolves by getting a twoferone.

And for those of you who think less of me now... I am talking about the wolf epidemic in Northern Idaho. You can't go out past dark up there without risking your life!

Maybe not that weird, but we also can't sustain the same kind of play later in the game with the same lineup (start of Q1 for one).

That is not wrong: he does shows flashes of excellency and has improved a lot. To become useful long-term he will need to either dramatically improve his finishing at the rim or develop a reliable jump shot. If he can gain both he would be a long-term starter, if just one of them - a quality backup.
