What's new

Jan Vesely for President

In this draft get a guy who plays like AK (at his peak) but with better shooting at the 6th slot would be a good pick.

This is actually an interesting question. Even we accept that Vesely is an AK clone (which I find questionable) does that justify the #6 pick? I'm not certain AK himself would have been a top 6 pick if we did a redraft of the 1999 draft and each team got the player's full career production given that the same year saw:

1. Elton Brand
2. Steve Francis
3. Baron Davis
4. Lamar Odom
7. Rip Hamilton
9. Shawn Marion
16. Ron Artest
57. Manu Ginobili

Also, infamous Jazzfanz crush-objects Jason Terry and Corey Maggette were in the draft. :)

It's possible that 99 was just loaded but I don't ever remember hearing it discussed as an all-time great draft.

FWIW: I have a suspicion that the crappiness of this year's draft will end up being somewhat overblown when we look at things five years from now.

I totally agree. I don't think it will look this weak, in a few years. And, I'd take take AK over Marion, Francis, Artest. In a redraft.

True. Just look at Smiles over the last four seasons. It does wonders.

KEK, why did you negitive rep me for that? Practice pays off and you commented about it being true and brought up Miles. Just doesn't make sense. Don't you want to see me get to rep power 2?

As European, I´m Spanish fan of Utah Jazz and obviously I watch a lot of european basket Vesely is NOT the pick...at least at 6, and for me neither 12

In last year He´s not improve his play

For example Donatas Motiejunas is every day best player and He has for sure nba talent and skills
Last game AWESOME 31 pts, 14 rbs and 5 steals ( italy lega MVP )

Motiejunas will be top 5 sure ( good thing for our team ), Vesely is the same level player 1 year ago...

Have you seen Bismak play in person?

You honestly thought his comment about Miles improving with practice was serious?

I think I hurt something typing that one.

I really have no idea what to think about this kid, but I'll bet he looks great in the workouts. Like a Jersey girl you know could make it on the runways in Milan if you can just get the Jersey out of her. I doubt the Jazz fall so in love they take him at 6. But I'll be shocked if they let him pass by at 12.

But, it will be pretty shocking if he last til 12. Pretty much all mock drafts have him going top 10. But if we take Knight 6 and Vesely is still there. Gotta pick him.

Agreed. i would love to get Knight at 6 and Vesely at 12. Vesely at the 12 would be a steal.

No way we should draft Knight at 6. If Biyombo is still available at 6, he would be a much better option. Vesely will not still be their at 12, though. So, the Jazz brass should decide what they want: another PF (although a potentially great one) to suck up Favor's playing time, or a long and athletic 3 to help out on defense and further improve our transition game.

No doubt, Janet's length and athleticism are elite, but here is an assignment for any Vesely fan: find me one highlight in the half court where he beats his man off the dribble and finishes. It doesn't even half to be a dunk. Every highlight is a dunk in transition or a put back, which pretty much any NBA SF can do well.

I'm not even a Jan fan, but:

Very first clip I've seen of him, honestly.

Maybe I'm nuts, but there's nothing that excites me about a hybrid forward that isn't a force inside, isn't a good shooter, and can't defend anyone.

You forgot his free throw shooting. Jones from Kentucky can shoot more than dunks and can play tough defense. Brandon Knight at 6 and T. Jones at 12 please.
