You are right. On paper, non-severe injury Hayward would fit this team like a glove.Hayward was so ready to be a #2. I think as soon as he saw who Mitchell was he would happily become a quiet number 2 option who loves video games, basketball, banging his hot wife, and being disappointed at gender reveals.
Then you just imagine Hayward getting all of the Royce, Allen, etc. minutes. I think we are fighting in that top 3 of the West and feel like we have a team that can win a chip without making a big move.
Obviously I’m happy it all worked out. But there’s no way I can convince myself that Jazz Hayward wouldn’t be contributing on this team in a huge way. Mitchell was already drafted (and making a huge splash in SL) when he left.
It worked out okay for Jazz fans, Hayward is the one who must really regret the decision. I wish all parties could be happy.
But I'm a big believer that everything happens for a reason. I always questioned Hayward's commitment to us long term and thus, getting a super committed charismatic Donovan was the anti-Hayward at the perfect time.
