Jazz 2017/18 Playoff Bus! All Aboard!

You understand how contracts work at this level, right? They aren't like player contracts. I would guess he has a Duke out option.

Lol

We got new material for the upcoming Worst take/thread of the season award! (also known as the 'Yamers gonna Yam' award...just kidding Yams)

Comparing the Jazz's roster to last year:

Rubio/Mitchell > Hill/Mack

Healthy Favors > Unhealthy Favors

Udoh > Jeff Withey

Healthy Burks > Unhealthy Burks

This year's Gobert looks equal to or better than last year's Gobert.

The only thing we're dealing with is the loss of Hayward and the effect of giving those touches to Hood, Johnson, Burks and Mitchell.

A line-up with Hood, Joe Johnson, Gobert and Mitchell should have plenty of offense.

I still think the Jazz should end up above 45 wins.
Other than the Burks thing, which I guess was still right in some ways, this was pretty prophetic in a lot of ways. Well done.

And the first comparison turned out to the the understatement of the year haha.

One of the best seasons ever. Love this team, and such a bright future.

Can't wait to do some damage in the playoffs! Can't wait to see these guys!

Here are the 5 teams in the NBA without a current or former all-star on the their roster:

  • Utah Jazz 47-33
  • Brooklyn Nets: 27-53
  • Chicago Bulls: 27-53
  • Orlando Magic: 24-56
  • Atlanta Haws: 24-57
The Jazz are also the only projected playoff team by FiveThirtyEight without a 2018 all-star.

Also now that we are in the playoff it finally feels appropriate to start looking at desirable matchups. Right now we are 4th and the Pelicans are 5th. Obviously the seeding is probably going to change wildly in these last couple games, but the Pelicans are an ideal first round matchup for us. Davis is Davis obviously but we'd have a very good shot in that series. Would much rather play them than the spurs. It'll be interesting to see what Portland and Utah do on the last game of the season if that game decides who will be third. The only team I want to avoid at all costs is the Thunder. They are just a bad matchup for the Jazz. I really want the Thunder to get the 7th or 8th seed because I feel like they could do at least a little damage to Houston or Golden State.

The team I want to play most is Minnesota. Not because the wolves are worse than the Pelicans, but that would be an epic series with a lot of story lines and Ricky beating his old team would be so ****ing sweet. That to me is the most fun possibility for a first round series. Teams actively dislike each other. Thibs meltdown as Rubio knocks down three after three in his face.

Would you want the third seed so you could play GS in the second round? Or would holding the fourth be better so you can play Houston? Both those teams seem unbeatable but ultimately I think I'd rather play the Rockets. The warriors are absolutely playing possum right now and when the post season comes I think they will quickly re-insert their dominance. I would still go for the third seed though unless the first round matchup was the thunder at six, because both the rockets and the warriors are mount Everest anyway. Getting the third seed would be a powerful statement for this team going forward.

Our last 8 games were pretty much a playoff, and the Jazz have been nailing it. If they get the 3 seed, I can't think of a better playoff prep. Honestly though, the people shaking in their boots over the freaking Thunder make me laugh. You know who didn't close out strong when it mattered most? The freaking Thunder who had their top 4 players healthy most of the darn season. Jazz are 14 and 1 on the road. over the last 15. Do people realize how incredible that is? That stuff translates to playoff ball.

That and members of our team are not only improving month to month, but game to game. The only real formula to beating the Jazz is to shoot something like 60% from 3. It will happen once in a while I suppose, but it isn't likely over a series.

I was definitely all-in on the tank at 19-28.
Just an unbelievable run.

Playoffs with homecourt would be unreal.
The Jazz have a punchers chance of getting out of the West.

Show me one example of an NBA coach willingly leaving for a college job? And if there is one it'll be a career college coach who tried the NBA and was on his way out and decided to leave before he was fired.

Rick Pitino.

And The Knicks begged him to stay.

What's the best sauce to serve with my crow?
I have to admit I didn't see playoffs on the horizon back at 19-28. I was thinking about a draft pick ~10.

Gen. George Patton said "Success is high you bounce when you hit bottom." This was a very successful season then. For a team that was left for dead in the cold days of middle January, they did alright for themselves. Just... amazing.
