What's new

Jazz (23-15) @ Grizzlies (23-16) on NBATV - 6 PM

Scheduled loss.

* 5th game in 7 days
* On the road
* Back-to-back
* Against one of the best defensive teams
* After we cleaned their clocks earlier
* You can bet they had this game circled
* Favors not 100%
* Hood not 100%
* Burks out
* Hill not 100%

And the Jazz still rallied and made a game of it to the point that we can gripe about the officiating. Proud of this team.

Until Hood stops having diarrhea, the Jazz will not be able to beat good teams, unless somebody else really steps up. This was the game for Hill to takeover seeing that nobody else was hitting (and specifically because Hood was not hitting anything), and unfortunately he did not become any more aggressive.

This is where I hope the playing time issue gets solved. If Hood is hot he gets the majority of mins. If Hood is off, and Burks on then Alec gets to finish the game.
We need to use our depth to our advantage. Play who is on that night.

How do the FG% and 3pt% of Rodney Hood, Shelvin Mack and Dante Exum compare for the season ??

Interesting question.

Player: FG% / 3P% / eFG% (eFG% Team Rank)

Mack: 45.2 / 32.3 / 50.3 (10)
Hood: 40.6 / 33.7 / 48.1 (13)
Exum: 40.7 / 29.2 / 47.0 (14)

I know it wasn't asked for, but here's our shooting at PF for comparison:

Diaw: 45.1 / 34.2 / 50.0 (11)
Lyles: 40.9 / 35.2 / 49.2 (12)
Favors: 44.1 / 40.0 / 44.7 (15)

This. Losses like in Boston were more frustrating, but this loss right there had to be largely anticipated. you know what I would have done, in all seriousness ? I would have given Rudy the night off and sent him directly home following the game the night before. He has been the anchor of this team, hasn't missed a game, we are getting close to that mid january moment when half the season has been played at breakneck pace and the all star break is still a month away, a breather would have been good for him.

He might be only 24 but he is a big tall center playing more minutes per game than ever without having missed a game. I actually think the Jazz might have done it had we won one of the previous games against Toronto or Boston. Anyway, as you said, scheduling loss.

cool, thanks Diaw is nowhere near the putrid offensive player that some paint him to be. Lyles is about what i'd expect. Fav and Hood should slowly drift back to their mean which will really help.

Yes THIS. They will drift back to mean. Hopefully in time. A BIG Part of the problem with the Grizzlies game is - YES we had all our starters back, but they have yet to develop any real chemistry. This January will be the first stretch where they actually get to play together. And Quin has an offensive system that is largely based around cohesion. The Jazz have a lot of catching up to do with other teams in the league, right now. Our starters have basically played 1 game together.

As far as I'm concerned, this game against Cleveland on Tuesday is the home opener.

That's great and all but I can do without the moral victories this season. It is time for actual victories.

Also, since Favors is ruining our offense due to spacing issues with him and Gobert on the floor together, I guess when Favors is playing center with Rudy on the bench, the rest of the team just starts draining their jumpshots like a ****, yes?

This spacing issue myth has gotten wayyyyyyy out of control.

He's hurting our offense a bit but I'm not sure it's his fault. He does not move the ball quick enough and we insist on posting him up still... I've never been a fan of his post game.

I also love that the officials can review and see that gasol traveled and really through his body in unnatural ways to draw a foul but yes he did get his foot behind the line so instead of getting the call right we will get it more wrong and... give Rudy a tech for making us feel bad about how wrong we were... WELL DONE GUYS... YOU NAILED IT!

We deserved to lose though... we didn't play good Grizzlies are a good team and that is probably the worst team outside of golden state to play on a back to back... truly was a schedule loss... on to the next one.

Trolls going hard after Mack.

Meanwhile, Diaw blows, has blown all season, and actually shouldn't see the floor.

Yeah, I am too because he always f's up after making a good play. He can't guard the Lowrys and Conleys of the NBA world. Wish we had Burks playing rather than Mack. To me, that's a no-brainer.

Gotta tip your hat to the Grizzlies. They just shut down the Jazz badly. Like last night has to be a season low for points in the paint.

Hey coach Quin, just once(because it'll probably only take one time), lose your ****ing **** and stand up for your ****ing team!
I cannot agree more, and I like Snyder a lot. But sheesh, someone other than Rudy on occasion has to stand up for the Jazz on occasion.

Been saying it for a year... pop lights up the refs on occasion... Kerr does too. I always thought if the refs don't hear it they must assume they are doing a good job.

I think Hayward may be the guy who is officiated the least fair possibly in the league. He plays the way basketball should be played... fights through contact... doesn't complain or flop and guys like parsons get calls where they do a high rip through and get contact then shoot... what the hell is that. Meanwhile guys just bear hug Hayward off ball.

The one I truly hated was Hayward catches the ball drives and parson runs into his space. Hayward goes towards the basket with two hands on the ball but because parsons is late getting there and comes in face first he hits Gordon's elbow... fouls on Gordon... he had two hand on the ball and is going up for a shot.

Officiating is so reactionary... they need to play off contact they can see and flippers never get the benefit of the doubt. Annoying as hell.
