Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

Yup, Donovan bought his own hype. He's a product of Gobert.

Not saying he wouldnt have good stats without Gobert, but Gobert's ability let a stat-hog get into the playoffs where he could put up massive stats while dogging it on defense.

He's just Collin Sexton who got the gift of playing with a GOAT.

It definitely feels like he’s plateaued a little. Does anyone see him being more than a 25/5/4 guy on the regular? Those are really good stats but it just feels like he could be more of a playmaker and play better defense.

Will be interesting to watch him without Gobert.

I hope a lot of the “dirt” surrounding Donovan can stay under wraps tbh. Because we’re all going to be even more hypersensitive the next time we land a star
Ehh, it is what it is.

This just highlights the importance of going for it when you can. Some people cry so much about the Conley trade "closing the window" but it looks like Donovan was closing that window himself. You can't just wait til your star gets on that 3rd contract if he isnt hyper committed.

If all this dirt is indeed true we should be very grateful to Don for not turning this into a public trade demand or Gordon Hayward-ing us and instead getting us a whole bunch of assets.

He would have to play here 3 more years to Gordon Hayward us.

This is the thing that strikes me:

A few times last season I got that vibe from Donovan, particularly during the playoffs. He would get that look on his face like he was hyper focused and planning to take over the game. But it just looked forced, like he wanted to look like that but that it wasn't really working. Or sometimes it was working but not consistently.

That look on his face perfectly describes his defense.

Don would always do that, I'm going to get in stance and press at 30 feet thing just to get blown by.

The dude bought his hype off those huge playoff performances 100%. To him it was always "I'm going to score, yall take care of the rest". He's not a complete player and he is a **** leader.

Maybe he puts it all together in New York, but if he is giving high level of effort on D for the first time in his career since his rookie year, his game is going to suffer in other areas. He isnt that guy.

Trying to build a team around Mitchell is like trying to build a team around Kyrie. He's good, really good, but he can't carry a team on his own. He's also a mercurial personality who demands the limelight and isn't always a team player. Mitchell says he's about winning, and I'm sure he'd like to be on a team where there are other All Stars to carry him, but he's taking the Carmelo path.

I'm sure Ainge saw this right away, since he had Kyrie for 2 years.

Rooting for Donovan to lose all the games will be so much fun.
Rudy too.

Plus whoever else we can flip for a 1st round pick.

I’m probably going to have more fun rooting against all these other teams than I’ll have rooting for the Jazz while they climb out of the abyss.

Now. . . I reserve the right to change my mind on that if they actually do acquire a new franchise player (or two.)

Donovan and Conley were both top-3 in take fouls last year. I wish I was kidding.

Sure, this is definitely true.

There is also probably a racial component to. Utah thought they could keep Hayward because he was a white guy from a small town, so they ignored the signs. There wasnt that ability to trick yourself with Donovan, so the signs had to be respected.

Hell no, I want Rudy to win rings and as many games as possible. I'd rather Rudy win a ring than get a late lottery pick (because there is no way in hell the Wolves arent making the playoffs).

Will never root for Rudy to lose.

I don’t really think so. We disrespected Hayward by not paying him what he was worth and making him go get an offer sheet from Charlotte.
