Jazz and Knicks discussing Donovan Mitchell trade per Shams Charania and Tony Jones

I guess so. Why don’t more teams do it if it was that easy?
The opportunity cost of present value vs future value: you forego opportunities in the present by paying more for a contract now.

There are limited opportunities to do such a thing, also. A team might not be able to start a contract at the higher number at the time they issue it either because of room or rule.

Usually it won't happen with no question max dudes. Barrett and Herro aren't that. Teams have descending contracts all the time as long as they have the space to do it, which some don't.

It's still wild to me people think Paschall was good when he was one of our dumbest team defenders and worst rebounders.

Why? 4/100 is still 4/100... they get more money up front. I'd take it out to 5/136M. 8% declines means he makes 27/24.5/22 in the final 3 years of the deal.
Aren't max contracts tied to your last year of salary? If you are young and believe in yourself you might think you could get a max contract for the next one and this would possibly affect that. Me, give me the bonus up front all day long, I could do more with that money than my team will.

It looked like he was playing really hard compared to a lot of low motor players on the roster.
Plays hard yet constantly ****s the teams defensive rotations up and doesnt rebound.

His man defense was nice at times, but he was complete *** as a player outside of a flukey shooting year.

Oh yeah, I’m not sad to lose him. I just think his hustle made people think he was doing more stuff than he really was.

I think there are just some people who want to discredit Gobert as much as possible and make some kind of excuse for Donovan not playing hard.

All contracts are tied to your salary... can go up or down by 8% year over year. If Herro got to the end of his deal the new max he could sign would be based on the cap at the time. There are some extension rules that a declining contract might hurt you, but the benefit is better than that potential side issue down the road.

Nobody said Paschall was good. I said we looked good when he played that one time. That one stretch that was the best we looked all postseason.

Everybody on here knows what I'm talking about.

OK, here is a fun exercise. Say the Jazz tank hard enough to get Scoot Henderson. Who would pair better with him, Donovan Mitchell or Tyler Herro?

Probably gonna be Don because the fit isn't perfect but he's a better player. Long term though Tyler could be under team control longer and is a younger player. You'd also have 3 additional picks and likely Jovic with Herro.

The same.

Both are going to be ball dominant 2-guards who dont defend and arent natural playmakers for others.

We need to stay away from those players.
