Jazz are out of the running for Shannon Brown

Brown is deciding whether to go to New York or wait to see if the Laker's can unload Vujacic

The Knicks have extended an offer to Shannon Brown and are waiting to hear whether the Lakers' free-agent guard will take it or wait for L.A. to make room to re-sign him by trading Sasha Vujacic, two people with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com Thursday.

Brown, 24, played all 82 games for the champion Lakers last season and is weighing whether to join Ray Felton in the Knicks' revamped backcourt or give the Lakers time to clear the room needed to re-sign him. The Lakers, as usual, are well into the luxury tax. So moving Vujacic's $5.4 million salary for next season would ease the tax hit associated with keeping Brown.

Brown's electrifying transition game would be a huge asset in coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo system, and Brown would have a good chance of winning a starting job after starting only seven games for the Lakers last season.

Remind me again why we're interested in this guy.

I question how well he'd fit here, so no big deal. He'd be unlikely to crack the starting lineup, and he's likely wanting more $$$ than we' want to give a b/u PG. Ooops; you wanted reasons we ARE interested...

Shannon is a good defender, and it doesn't hurt that he has champ experience. Oh and he has a better FG% than Mike James (who doesn't?) and is younger than both MJ and J-Will (who isn't). But it looks like he wants to be in a big city, and he probably is asking more than the Jazz want to pay (i.e., the minimum).

I know this news is hitting breezy hard, and I respected breezy's adulation of Brown. I'm indifferent, but Brown should go to New York. Great system for him, and I think he'll turn out better than people think.

I bet Shannon Brown is wishing he took the 3yr/$9m offer that the Jazz made to him, Bell, and Brewer at the same time. He is gonna find it hard to get that deal now, as he did with the deal he ended up signing with the Lakers last year. Utah would have been better off with Brown and Brown would have been better off too. Maybe with a starting backcourt of Brown and Williams, Utah would have maintained some level of control last year and not imploded in the manner they did? Not saying Brown would have been the savior in anyway, but he would have been a piece that would have performed well on both ends of the court, ran with Deron, and been part of Utah's future/on their books in a positive way.

But he'd have to live in Utah <<sigh>> #ThinkingFromHisPerspective

We were never in the running. I just suggested that as someone possibly to go after. And doesn't Vujaic play for the Nets?
