Jazz at Dubs Official Game Thread -- 8:30PM MT: NBATV, ROOT

Hayward has unquestionably taken a leap this season. He's been one of the best isolation scorers in the entire NBA.

But I guess only this game counts and we can throw the rest of the season into the trash.

It's these 'big games' that's the real litmus test though.

That's right. These games are the next level.

Treadmill teams can close out the TWolves. Gotta beat some top teams to get to the next level.

Hayward has to show up and do smth. Couldn't even hit a shot

He's our 'best' player, he needs to learn how to score on iso if there's nothing going. Lillard, Cousins, etc. They can do that.

Also did you see that 'pass' he made to the 5th row of the stand?

If we're to take the next step, our 'best' player needs to take the same leap.

These are just generalizations and things you want to happen without any actual plan. You play to your team's strengths, not the opposing teams. Having Hayward isolate vs a player with SF foot speed and a 7'5 wingspan and 9'2 standing reach? Brilliant plan because if Hayward cant score on that then he is useless. And damn, Hayward made a bad skip pass. Crazy, I guess he is terrible, it's not like he hasnt made incredible skip passes on target all season for wide open 3's. Also how ridiculous is it to throw blame on Hayward when Hood obviously struggled to even be on the court due to some kind of illness. They didnt have to guard anyone dynamic tonight other than Hayward, not a recipe for success for a team that great on the perimeter defensively.

We have to play to our roster's strengths (which is hard to do with our current PG situation). We have to slow it down and execute offense. We couldn't do that tonight with our spacing as they sagged off and focused on Hayward so he couldn't get anything going to the rim. The players they let drive just threw the ball away for easy Warrior fastbreaks.

Yeah, we've done really well up to this point, but #NextLevel is what's important.

Bro, chill would ya? I'm not saying Hayward is 'terrible' when did I say that?

All I'm saying is he needs to step up for the #NextLevel.

There are obviously fans who only watch the results but are completely unaware of everything leading up to the result of a made or missed shot, a turnover, a missed defensive rebound, etc.

You really had to go the next level of being insufferable and make a hashtag for how stupid you are?

We just beat Memphis in Memphis. We also beat San Antonio (on the road) and Houston this year. We have beaten 4 of the other 7 Western Conference playoff teams.

Do you have to take everyone's heads off for expressing an differing opinion?

smh

I feel it's necessary when the opinion is that of a Skip Bayless level hot take. You want Hayward to prove his worth by isoing and scoring on KD? And you blame him for not being able to do that in a game where Hill, Burks, and Favors are out (Hood was also basically out with his problem)? Do you see how ridiculous that sounds?

Bro, Hayward wasn't quiet in all the other games Hill, Burks and Favors were out though, was he?

This is clearly a much better team than we've faced. It's the Next Level. And he froze.

More good news: Everyone besides the Clippers and San Antonio lost tonight in the Western Conference Playoff picture. We didnt lose any ground on Houston with the loss. We are still in great position.

Since when did KD become a stud defensive player GTFO of here with that ,he isn't a great defensive player and Hayward should do better than 2 fer 10 and 0fer on 6 from 3's ,he didn't show up and Jazz followed his lead

You really think he froze? You think the whole thing was mental for him? If he just had the will he could have gotten the W? It had nothing to do with the fact everytime Mack or Exum drove into the paint it was a turnover (besides the couple floaters Mack hit)? It had nothing to do with the fact Hood had to leave the game with an illness that held him scoreless when he did play? It had nothing to do with the fact that our gameplan was compromised because of how the Warriors defended us?

The way you make it sound is like Hayward just iso'd his way through every other performance and there aren't processes within the team designed to get Hayward easy buckets and looks to get him going. Those same things we do werent open against Golden State, largely because of who we were missing.

Yes, he needs to play better and hit more shots, but his lack of shot making was not the difference between a win or loss. The difference was on the team as a whole and how we have to play against the Warriors to win.

Yeah, I think Hayward not playing well may have had a lot to do with Hayward himself. It can't just be other people's fault. If he's the max stud, he should be making everything easier for his teammates, not relying on them to initiate offense.

Since he was born with the genetics that allowed him to have a 7'5 wingspan and a 9'2 (for reference, basically the same length as Favors) standing reach while having the footspeed of a perimeter player. Also makes a huge difference that he doesnt have to exert as much energy creating shots for himself within the GSW offense compared to the ISO heavy OKC offense. Because it's the crazy thing, expending a ton of effort on one end hurts your productivity on the other. It's why Harden doesnt play defense and why Hayward sometimes struggles when he has to spend so much energy guarding guys like KD since no one else on our team has the size to do so.
