Jazz at Dubs Official Game Thread -- 8:30PM MT: NBATV, ROOT

Cy's the only one in this thread that's making the effort to provide a competent analysis of the game, you've just been responding with shallow borderline troll comments. The "stop hurting my feelings" card is just further derailing the discussion.

Cy has dismissed every single point everyone here has made as 'hot takes', not just mine. He only believes what he said is correct, and we all know nothing is that clear cut. Just because he writes more aggressively, more lengthy with more words and paragraphs doesn't mean his analysis is any more competent than the next person.

No, I'm pretty sure it's part of what makes my analysis more competent than yours. Not saying my analysis is perfect, or 100% correct, but I'm sure it's more well thought out than yours. I attempt to explain "why", you just seem to react to final results and narratives.

Have you made a point that wasnt just a broad general statement like "he needs to play better to prove he is worth the max"?

People are saying Hayward isn't clutch even though his clutch stats illustrate otherwise. People say the Jazz aren't even close based on a game against the best team in the world without 4 of our best 6 players. People are saying Hayward isn't a max player because he's had two bad games over the past month. You're criticizing Hayward for not playing well in "big games" even though we've seen him have amazing games against the likes of LeBron and Durant plenty before.

These are all objectively false claims that Cy is calling people out for, not just "differing opinions".

"Hayward isn't clutch, crumbles in big moments vs good teams"

Clutch minutes previous game Jazz @ Grizzlies:

3:51 Boris Diaw makes 26-foot three point jumper (Gordon Hayward assists) 69 - 66

2:56 Gordon Hayward makes 27-foot three point jumper (Shelvin Mack assists) 72 - 66

2:17 Shelvin Mack makes 24-foot three point jumper (Gordon Hayward assists) 75 - 68

So Hayward was directly responsible for 9 straight points in a tied game w/ under 5 minutes left. Of course this does nothing to stop certain fans from repeating a false narrative that Hayward only chokes in close games and isnt clutch.

Here's Hayward's 'clutch time' stats so far this season. I prefer something like this to Cy's ramblings + name calling.

I don't care about Memphis. They are not an ultra elite/championship contending team. I want to see Hayward at least have an impact on the game against the best of the best. I'm sick of these complete disappearances/faceplants against the league's best teams.

Hayward so far this year has made 4/13 'clutch time' shots. Clutch time defined as "During the 4th quarter or overtime, with less than five minutes remaining, and neither team ahead by more than five points".

This places him 102th in the NBA so far this year. Granted he has missed 7 games so far this year, but 4 shots is not a lot, especially after 13 attempts.

That includes the last five minutes of close games, yeah? This season Hayward's only had 26 total minutes of time that would qualify. You need to look at last year at the very least to get an adequate sample size. Last year iirc he shot over 50% from the field in the final minute of close games.

Yeah but the narrative you've been accepting as 'competent' is he has taken a step forward this year. If you also believe that, then you should also believe he has improved rather than regressed?

I understand it's small sample, but if you're gonna believe Cy's ramblings, why not accept actual stats as well?

Isn't that double standard?

And the previous game was TO almost every time he got the ball

I think it was pretty obvious that I was referring to his overall game when I said he took a step forward from last year. In regards to how clutch Hayward is, I wasn't making any statement on how clutch he is relative to previous seasons because he hasn't had enough clutch minutes to draw any meaningful conclusions from. When I said Hayward was clutch, I was mostly thinking of last year, because that's the most recent statistically significant data to go off of.

Last year, nobody who took more than 16 shots in the final minute of close games shot a higher percentage on those shots than Hayward. Nobody.

Last year Hayward was 14/25 on last minute clutch shots.

Last year Hayward was 43% from the field in clutch situations.

Use that small sample size though hotnickkkk

That's my point though. Cy hasn't referenced any stats either for THIS YEAR'S performance. All he's doing is going off of his opinions. It would be impossible to say competently 100% how good Hayward's overall game is objectively, yet you seem to think Cy's idea of what Hayward is trumps everyone's else idea of how he is VS how he actually is.

And when I bring up THIS YEAR'S stats - oh well it's small sample size, or go look at LAST YEAR'S stats.
