Jazz at Suns Game Thread

Didn't read the thread, so I don't know if this has been mentioned. But the Jazz really struggle against strong driving PGs.

Also, is Mack injured? We could have used him.

After playing well in the first half, Mack got burned very badly by Lowry in the last quarter in our loss at Toronto. His playing time got reduced immediately after that game, and he has accumulated 44 minutes across 4 games since. In that time, he has shot 3-13, given off 4 assists, recorded no steals, and committed 5 turnovers.

Looks to me like it's just his turn in the doghouse, just took a few games to shoo him all the way in.

Jazz look slow. Switches are indecisive and/or slow resulting in wide open looks. Guards have sucked the last couple of games. Something is definitely wrong with Hill. And Exum is just pure trash. Jazz need a backup PG. Utah is carrying 1 starter and 3 versions of JLIII.

We are hitting the very rough patch of the season where players are really tired after having played a bit less than 3 months at full tilt. 43 games in 85 days means playing every other day.

It's that time of the year when rookies hit the rookie wall, when nagging injuries start multiplying, etc.. We are reaching the moment when coaching staffs have to start thinking about resting key players once in a while. We have a good break till friday, so that will help, but for example after that we play friday 20,21, 23, 24, 26, 28, feb 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15 and then all star break. If i where the coaching staff I would look at resting Gobert at some point during that 20-28 january stretch with 6 games in 9 days. After that early february is a wee bit better with only 3 games between january 28 and february 4, but then it sucks again with 6 games in 9 days between feb 6 and and 15.

Gobert isn't the only one the staff should take care of, but he has been the workhorse playing all games this season and is a key for our post season hopes. If he can have 2/3 games off this year, it would really help. 1 game off in each one of those 2 nasty sequences, or at least in the january one because for february the all star break will come soon after would be good.

For example him just stayint in Salt Lake city after the game of Jan 23 and not going to Denver for the b2b on 24 and be ready again for the game at home on 26 against the Lakers. You save him 2 good night of sleep by avoiding travel and staying home and give him 2 days rest instead of playing 3 games in 4 days.

And then if you want to do it another time (works for him or another player in need of rest), you can do it as well either in NO or Dallas on 8 or 9 feb : you play in Atlanta on 6 Feb, then either rest a player in NO or have him play and then send him straight home, skeeping the Dallas game. After that the last 3 games before the all star break are at home on 11, 13 and 15 so less tiring.

Really travel and rest management become very important once we reach this part of the season. Resting 1 or 2 games now might be what allow Rudy to have lost of energy in march to secure a standing and start preparing to make noise in the playoffs.

Right now a silly little knee or ankle bruise for Gobert coming in great part out of tiredness would really throw a spanner in our wheel.

Good thing we allocated almost a quarter of the teams salary to Diaw and Iso Joe for moments like these!!
Agreed. They were both pretty crucial tonight.

I created a thread about this awhile back but it appears I'm in a minority of one about the physical play getting out of hand. The Suns were ridiculous. A foul could've been called on every possession against them yet the Jazz only shot 21 foul shots, and I think plays where there is an aggressive push on the back that could seriously injure a player like the one Booker gave to Rudy should be a flagrant foul because there is absolutely no play on the ball.

Memphis would be a dangerous 6th or 7th seed.

want memphis to be 7th. spurs to be 2nd

then somehow someway we nee dhouston to drop a few games and become 4th.

so then jazz is 3rd clippers 6th!

to summarize

1.gsw
2.SA
3.UTH
4.HOU
5.LAC
6.OKC
7.Mem
8.sacrifical LAMB!

this is the msot ideal scenario for jazz to go as far as possible seeing as hou has change of beating okc. and memphis could beat SAS.

jazz could beat all other 2 except gsw and sas in a 7 game serie.

highly unlikey of it happening though

highly unlikely of it happening though

I think the Jazz could beat the Spurs if everyone is healthy. Favors has always played well against them and if he gets back to his normal self by the playoffs and is able to contain Aldridge, I think they would have a good chance to beat them.

Just want to say that I love that Rudy does behind the back passes and no look passes and dribbles the ball up the court on occasion and does things that are probably not in his wheelhouse. Love his swagger and confidence even if it results in some turnovers or ugliness on occasion. It's just Rudy's badassness unable to be restrained and I love it.

No one, or at lest close to no one, and probably no one who had a real account. The only thing I remember slightly negative about Gobert in recent history was the great green predicting Gobert would be benched for Trey Lyles this year.
I think I remember a John wall for gobert trade suggestion last year. I think I said I would have to think about it but probably say no (iirc)

Cappy_Smurf quoted it a while ago.

F'realz. His attitude about the game is must-watch-TV.

He also does the my bad pat on his chest when he knows he took it too far... Rudy continues to amaze... makes one play a game on offense that he didn't have the year before.

Haywards development has also been amazing. He doesn't get enough credit for what he's doing.

Our last few draft picks, Lyles and Exum, sure had a massive impact on last night's game...

I mean if they weren't there you wouldn't have anything to complain about so you're welcome

That sucks - would rather gain a game on LAC than OKC.

OKC doesn't scare me anymore - Utah is clearly a better team at this point.
Agreed

Went to the game last night. George Hill is crazy important to this team. Constantly getting on guys, demanding more from them. He got on Rudy a few times last night and you could see it light a fire in Rudy.

Must keep him. Leader that this young team has needed to take them to a higher level. Love to hear these things.

It's painful as hell when it happens but I think he could have played OT... will definitely be stiff. Not sure we see him Friday or ever tbh.. he may have died
Lol
