Jazz' Big Goal: 5th or 6th place

Stifle Tower

"As for the Bell situation, O'Connor cautioned media not to make too big of deal out of this, and he feels good going forward after the meeting.
"That chapter's closed. We're moving on and Raja will be in uniform tonight," O'Connor said. "I think you understand that we're committed. Raja's a competitor. Coach is a competitor and we're going to figure out a way to try and get to the sixth or fifth place in the league. That's our goal, and that's what we talked about in there — what's the best way to do that.""

(Aside: I think KOC actually meant 5th or 6th in the WC; there's no way to get to 5th/6th in the league).

Well, if that's the master plan, let's trade one of the underachieving bigs (Favors or Kanter) or Burks since we have two guys in CJ and Raja that can play SG. Perhaps pick up a guy like Grant Hill for our run to 6th place. Mauybe even Corey Maggette. KOC's been in love with him for a long time. Now's our chance. Jazz may never get this close to the 6th seed again!!! Utah loses CJ and Howard after the season, then Millsap, Harris and Jefferson will all be FA's. Time to take this last shot at winning a couple of home playoff games.

Disgusting, absolutely &*^% disgusting. While other franchises talk about building for a championship, Greg and his boy Kevin talk about 6th place.

If you're not in it to win, Greg...SELL THE DAMN TEAM! I don't even care if they move to Vegas. I'd cheer for the Las Vegas Gamblers IF they had an owner and GM with cajones who were committed to competing for a title. Greg only wants your $ to line his pockets. As long as the peasants continue to flock to the ESA, he'll continue to slice payroll and be as minimally competitive as possible.

Hope it's just talk .. but I know better ..

Oh .. and if THAT's what they were talking about 'in there' .. then Bell better sack up or STFU.

How the **** does KOC know what the team's goals are? Sorry but the GM shouldn't be the spokesperson for what the coaches and players' goals are. He's not directly involved with them on a day to day basis in that regard. That seems odd and as if he's running the show, not Ty. I guess the fact that he had to mediate this **** today only confirms that.

Please stop. All of you are the biggest drama queens I've ever seen. Stop.

He's talking about this year. 5th or 6th is a very optimistic goal for this year. If he said championship this year, you people would be laughing at him for that. What he said was realistic. Nowhere did he say we're "building for the 5th pick". Again, he's talking about this year.

Secondly, he knows what the team's goals are because he is the GM of the ****ing team. Goddamn, seriously?

FWIW, 5th place in the league is 2-3 seed in WC which is just as optimistic as winning Championship

Fixed.

If KOC thinks this version of the Jazz, coached by Ty Corbin, can finish in 5th or 6th in the LEAGUE, then Beasley must have hooked him up with his supplier. The Jazz are tied for 11th place in their conference. That means there are only THREE teams in the WC with WORSE records. And Ty is giving major minutes to players shooting under 40% (Howard, Miles). As a team, Utah is giving up the 6th highest FG% and the 4th most FT's. Whatever changes TY made on the defensive end ain't working...or he's just playing the wrong guys.

lol Craig. Good stuff

You guys are over-reacting.

I don't think KOC meant getting 5th-6th in the future...just this year.
It's silly of anyone on the Jazz to believe that they can do better than 5th/6th this year.

If I search long enough, KOC said he wants this team to compete for a championship in a couple years.

This coming from someone who historically has been KOC's biggest supporter and spinster. We must really have hit rock bottom.

The most shocking thing about this thread are the people who think we're upset because 5th seed is too low! No, geniuses. The ones complaining are doing so because the Jazz chose that getting trashed in the playoffs is their top priority.
