What's new

Jazz @ Clippers, 11/28/2010 1:30 MT

Good win.

Now keep the machine going.

We're on pace for 59 wins and only three out of the next 24 games are on the road against a team with a winning record. That's huge. We could go on a major run here.
Yep, the meat of our schedule is the first and last 15 or so games of the season. The middle portion is pretty favorable. We may not win all the close games like we have been doing, but I see no reason why we will start playing worse.

If Blake Griffin can get a reliable mid range jumper and stay healthy, I think he could be a Karl Malone type player. I don't think that is too far fetched. He is supremely talented and also a very smart player. His passing ability for a rookie big is special.

So.... Blake Griffin outscored and outrebounded both Millsap and Al Jeff combined.

He needs to work on his free throw shooting like Karl did as well. Dude's a major liability there.

Too bad good players such as Griffin end up on a team like the Clippers. How many top 10 draft picks are on that team? An organization with absolutely no concept of what a winning culture is.

Official postgame quotes — Jazz 109, Clippers 97

Published on Nov 28, 2010 06:02PM

Official postgame quotes following the Jazz's 109-97 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at Staples Center.

Coach Jerry Sloan
Re: Increased offensive efficiency
“We just had to give the ball to someone who was open. You don’t have to shoot it every time you get it. You pass the ball and you have a better chance of getting a high percentage shot.”

Re: Defensive adjustments
“We were able to zone them a little bit. They were killing us with their offense, getting the kind of shots they wanted. Then we slowed them down a little bit and they missed some shots. Against a zone you have to make shots and fortunately for us they missed some.”

Andrei Kirilenko
Re: Halftime adjustments
“In the first half we were very sloppy, probably because of the early game, we didn’t have as much energy right away. In the second half, we warmed up good and we talked about being focused. We came out and played a good game in the second half.”

Deron Williams
Re: Second half adjustments “We woke up a little bit in the second half. We executed better, played a better ballgame. They shot 60% before halftime and we held them below 50% in the second half. At halftime, we just talked about getting stops.”

Coach Vinny Del Negro
Re: Playing the Jazz
“It’s never easy. Give Utah credit, they execute so well. We knew what they were going to do, they are a veteran team. Deron Williams gets them in their sets and they push the tempo when he controls the game. You knew they were going to make a run no matter what. Once they got control of the game we were trying to fight back and fight back.”

Re: Clippers play in the third quater
“You just keep on trying to figure the puzzle out. We missed a few shots in the 3rd quarter but really they just controlled the tempo with their execution and our turnovers. Once they got us back on our heels we still did a good job on the glass and attacking them in other areas but we just weren’t sharp enough offensively.”

Clippers Guard Eric Gordon
Re: The teams play in the third quarter
“There were three or four opportunities where we could have made the easy layup. They had a couple of blocks from behind. If we could have converted on those plays we knew we would have been there with some momentum. We knew they were going to fight back, we just need to convert those easy plays.”

Clippers Forward Blake Griffin
Re: What the Clippers need to work on.
“We were up eight at the half. I like that we play hard and all that but we need to figure out a way to do that for 48 minutes instead of 32, 36 or 40. It is frustrating but I like the way this team plays hard. We just need to keep working until we find something that works.”

Missed the game, checked the box score and got scared a little - Big Al only played 29 minutes with 3 fouls. Thought he was injured, but now I realized that they have a game against the Bucks tomorrow night. Look for him to have a big game against Bogut-less Bucks.

Griffin is the best rookie I've seen in a long time. He already has a complete game and athletically he's a monster. As long as that knee injury is behind him, he'll be the best 4 in the league within 2 years.

How is he defensively? He's not that long. His free throw shooting is awful if I'm not mistaken and his shooting skills are limited as well. Just saying. Don't get me wrong. Kid's a beast but...

Defensively he uses his body real well but he can be beat. A lot of that is just the fact he's seeing guys for the first time and still adjusting to NBA caliber offenses. I'll bet he looks great against teams that run a lot of Iso's for their 4's. His shooting skills are NOT limited. That's probably the most impressive thing beyond his already solid post game. He can shoot it out to 20, he's not afraid to use the glass, and he's on the fast track to unguardable. The size thing is also weird because he doesn't look undersized to me. But size will never be an issue with him anyway because he's so absurdly athletic. I don't get the free throws. But his form is fine so he'll improve. I'll be flat out shocked if he isn't first team NBA for a decade. He could get there next year, but he'll definitely be there at the end of year 3.
