Jazz could be interested in Sessions

According to Dwain Price of the Star-Telegram, the Mavericks' next move will be to add free agent point guard Ramon Sessions.

Sessions seeks a starting job and is one of the top point guards still on the market. He'll likely generate interest from teams like Houston, Utah and Toronto in addition to the Mavs.

That seems like speculation to me. Houston and Dallas make sense to me from that list, but Toronto just traded for Lowry and the Jazz just got Mo Williams. Considering Sessions wants to be a starter, I don't see him with the Jazz.

much better backup than tinsley or watson. and a much better PLAYMAKER than mo, so it'd be nice to have two guys at the position with different mentalities - a scorer for some situations, a facilitator and fast break animal for others.

While I don't disagree with anything you said, I'm fairly certain Sessions wants a starting job, and I don't think he'd get it here.

i don't know where he'll get an offer that guarantees him a starting job. he's not just starter-caliber, unless he's on a really bad team.

i see your point, i'm just saying i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the idea when our current backups are earl and jamaal, and for that matter our current starter is a player who never attacks the paint.

It seems like the best possibility of that would be Dallas at this point, but who knows? I would love to have a Williams/Sessions PG tandem if the Jazz could make it happen and Ty could keep everyone engaged.

dallas could, but i think kidd saying he would be willing to step aside and back up an elite PG was a comment that was reserved for the likes of DW and CP3. they also have roddy b who maybe isn't the most traditional point guard, but will get some minutes if healthy.

even with a horrible cleveland team, sessions started in 42 of a possible 122 games. for his career, he has started fewer than a third of his games. he has also never averaged more than 27 mpg. i agree with you that it might be tough to convince HIM that he's a backup, but realistically, that's what he is.

Kidd agreed to go to the Knicks a bit ago:

Dallas definitely needs a PG now.

I think you guys are underselling Sessions a little bit here due, I think, to the awesome Presser from Mo and Ramon's underwhelming half season for LA. I'd way rather him split minutes with Mo than either of our current backups. You have to consider with the LA situation that Mike Brown can make any point guard look like trash.

If he's not too expensive it's worth considering.

i'm not valuing him based on his LA time... i'm valuing him based on a career as a decent backup PG. i think he would be a good backup here, and i sincerely doubt that any team is going to give him a serious offer to start unless they're extremely desperate (read: dallas).

I agree with you and still think he's a better playmaker than Mo. I think he's better than Collison too just to be relevant to the rest of the conversations.

Edit: posted a request for some evaluations on Sessions on the Browns board Cavs page. Hopefully I can get some insight from people that watched him every game for a year and a half.

Sessions is an awkward spot of not being good enough to be a starter but being too good to be a backup.

I would love him as a 15 mpg backup.
