Lmao. As if donating money going make people view you different. Even people that hateLBJ will say he gives a lot back. Start treating players better and maybe when your at the game and hear a racist comment go tell the usher . Multiple ex players on TNT talked about hearing racial remarks while In Utah. I live in Colorado and we would guess over half Utah population is racist or weird. Salt Lake City is the weirdest big town I have ever been to.

It can’t hurt, it can help some. No harm.

Best thing to do is simply not speak when in the presence of people of color? Although that might be offensive too?

I think our rep as being extra is warranted... a few assholes will take it too far and make it racial or too personal... equating menacing looks into racism is a stretch but we opened ourselves up to this and anyone that can get some extra clicks can do it now.

We gotta be loud and passionate but just don’t be assholes.

Ya I'm not only talking about at jazz games though
I don't know if you saw the story stoked posted recently about a black man approaching him and basically accusing him of doing something racist. I think the man thought that stoked was acting nervous or something and it offended him. Stoked had no idea what he did wrong.

At work just this week I'm sitting at a table in our break room with 4 other guys and one of them was black. There was a discussion about a potluck/work party and what food people would want. One guy (Caucasian) suggested fried chicken. Immediately I'm thinking in my head oh **** that's a word you have to be careful with due to stereotypes. Everyone got silent and awkward and the black guy said come on man and there was no altercation and the conversation moved on. We all know each other and are in a work environment. Now if that guy was from out of town and didn't know the white guy and had a preconceived notion that white men in Utah are racist and was easily triggered then it could be worse.

A knickname that I call my 2 year old daughter is my little monkey or sometimes lil monk. (100% true)
Now what if I were somewhere in public and I said to her come here you little monkey and there was a black man near by that heard that and figured I'm white and in Utah so im racist. Maybe he can't see her cause she is tiny and there is an obstruction blocking her from view (bus/Trax seat, bookshelf at the library, etc)
Maybe he is easily triggered or already in a bad mood or something. Monkey is one of those words.

There are just so many triggering words and phrases and some I don't even know about. I didn't know about the word boy being offensive. On your knees was only a reference to fellatio in my mind before this week. And in stoked case he didn't even speak.

It's just a sensitive world we live in and everyone (me included sometimes) is easily triggered. It's frustrating sometimes like this rep that all utahns apparently have (which kinda offends and triggers me lol) now.

Posts like this probably don't help and only make things worse which is actually why I deleted my post that you quoted. It just makes things worse

Good post, fishonjazz. I just assume you called your child "little monkey" because of the monkeys jumping on the bed book or because she jumps around a lot. It's sad that the word has now become a racial slur if used at all. And why would fried chicken be offensive. Would italians be offended if someone suggested a pasta dish? I guess watermelon is out for 4th of July parties. Or is it ok if other color melons are also included like cantaloupe and honeydew?

She was hanging from stuff and climbing things before she could walk

I looked online at the Tribune page to see something i could point to show Utah weirdness. And there it was talking about beer only have 4 percent liquor instead of the 4.8 and higher most beers are. I got dirty looks asking about coffee at some gas station. Like i said weird place. I'm looked at like a zoo animal because of my skin and having tattoos. I never before felt so singled out
I get dirty f***** looks from people every single day lmao. You perceive that however you f***** want and go f*** yourself with the garbage you say on here. You and those POS who cross the line are much more alike than you’ll ever be willing to see.
