What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

I've always liked Bender more than most. He's still just 20. I think there is real talent there.

It isn't just him it's that type of player. Unless he is a stretch 5 I don't know where he finds success. Not a stretch 4... I prefer Skal by a lot.

I personally think we are panicking a bit over this stretch 4 thing. We don't HAVE to have Favors or even Thabo. If we really wanted to address the stretch 4 spot, we just do this:

Start Crowder (34% 3pt shooter at 6'6" 235)
Play Ingles some (42% 3pt shooter at 6'8" 226)
Keep Jerekbo (36% 3pt shooter at 6'10" 231)
Play O'Neale some (36% 3pt shooter at 6'6" 226)
Play Niang some (TBD 3pt shooter at 6'6" 231)

So if we found some SG/SF in free agency, I think we could be covered at the 4 and keep Udoh as Gobert insurance.

Bad rebounder.

Bad rebounder.

Not as good of a defender.

A reasonable option I'd like to explore.

Huge question mark.

Nobody is perfect. If Favors was perfect, we wouldn't be talking about the stretch 4 issue. But to be fair, let's do:

Start Favors (20% 3pt shooter with .2 shots per game at 6'10" 265)

Can't spread floor

Good fits (rebounding, defense, shooting):

1. AD.
2. JJJ.
3. Aminu.
4. Ibaka if he were still able to rebound and play D.
5. Teh Bolomboy just because.
6. Spellman.

May as well just do Thabo if he can keep up his good shooting.

What about Juancho?

I've been the biggest Skal stan around here...

Oh... I'd go Juan, Skal, 100 other guys, then Bender :)

Skal has shown more and he's in an environment that is just damn awful. I was referring to guys that are 4/5 combos as shooters... Juan is a 3/4 or close to a straight 4 imo.

Indeed. I meant if he were 2 inches taller, a good defender, and a good rebounder, that he'd be unattainable.

Ah... like if I was good looking, rich, and likeable... I only need to fix those three things and my wife and family would like me more.

I heard Spellman's defense is poop. No thanks on Serge.

I don't know why we don't roll Royce out there as small ball 4... I've yet to hear someone poke a hole in that one.

By JJJ, do you mean Jaren Jackson Jr.? If so, I agree with you. I think we should go all in and trade for him and Parsons. F it. Go all out. If he pans out, we win a title.

I like Skal because I think he can provide the shooting at the 4 sometimes and if a team put a 3 on him that Skal could actually take that guy in the post... Bender I don't think does that. Skal would be most effective as a small ball 5 though, but the defense hasn't been good enough yet. He's young and has some fantastic physical tools. Seems like a great kid... he is just living in a dumpster fire.

Check post #362.

And I agree. I think Royce could be a great stretch 4 for stretches. See what I did there.....

i originally laid it out in the fours thread... he is perfect for the role imo... and it would get him more PT.

I just want it known that I invented Royce at the 4... so when it happens and he explodes I get all the likes.

The biggest possible downside that I can think of with playing Royce as a small ball 4 is that we would lose his perimeter defense.

Both Bender and Chriss could probably be had with Marquisse Chriss probably the easier one to get . But Bender would be my pick for the Jazz .He could get you dbl figure rebounds and he made 118 3 pt baskets this year.Ricky Rubio only made 96 3 pters last year with way more playing time. But who do you trade for a 20 yr old with a lot of upside.
