Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

LeBron is definitely staying East now. I have a feeling he is in 'prove it' mode with the Lakers, who are failing majestically. I'm betting he does another small 1+1 or so.

Also, I think the Lakers have the ability to throw an offer Exum's way. Remember who LA's GM is now? Yeah... And they'll probably try to shed salary to keep their two max slots open for next year. UNLESS LeBron decides to team with Boogie... which sounds like a dumpster fire.

For the Jazz, this has been a really good free agency. They've got leverage on their own FA's and cash to chase RFA's.

They're not going to double down on Exum. Exposes them to more embarrassment.

No way he signs for 3 years for that money. 10-12M or even more on a 1year or 2 year deal (like Millsap's) is plausible. I don't buy what others are suggesting: no one has cap space, therefore squeeze the guy and offer him the MLE or less. That's not how the Jazz do business.

No. At the VERY LEAST we'll match his current salary for a year or two.

Let them throw 15+ mil at Exum and we'll kindly laugh at them when we hang up the phone

yup, that's what I expect to happen. 10-12M per year is plausible but I imagine DL offering a slight raise on a 1 or 2 year deal. That would be a fair deal. The Jazz want to show that they take care of their own FA, just like they did with Ingles last year.

It's not squeezing if it's his value.

Philly just lost 2 of there major players. 2 of the shooters that made Simmons look good. Simmons unless philly finds new shooters, he will be exposed next year.

In Covington they trust.

I don’t think we will sign exum. and either sign favors or try to get parker. that’s probably it for this summer

So you propose a significant paycut? make him the starter with the lowest salary (on a non-rookie deal) despite being on the team for more than 7 years? how does he feel after looking at how the negotiations with Ingles went last year?. Nah, I don't see DL maximizing his leverage on this one. The Jazz care about chemistry and being perceived as a classy organization that treat their players well.

So much of the money is already gone. Lakers better not offer Exum a huge deal. I like our chances at getting him for a good price at this point.

The difference is that there were reports that several other teams were prepared to offer Ingles at least as much as the Jazz did, and I believe Orlando was going to offer him even more than the Jazz. That's not the case with Favors, there just isn't much of a market for him. Paying a guy way over his market value seems like a bad way to do business, especially for a small market team like the Jazz.

Business is business. You don't give millions away cause it's a nice thing to do. Especially since he was always hurt until he gets into a contract year. He's not a perfect fit next to Rudy. If he was a good shooter he'd be worth 15 mil.
