I'm pretty sure we can now take up to three players back (somebody correct me if i'm wrong) So hypothetically we could take back 6.5 Million for one player (Harpring's Exception), 2.7 Million for a player (Brewer), and 13 Million (Boozer). They can't be combined though, but the nice thing is that you don't usually have to include anything else.

If Chicago granted the S&T request for nothing, they undoubtedly have had conversations with Boozer about what he's going to get out of it. The 6th year is the holy grail, but the 10%'s should be a lock. Otherwise, why would Chicago be doing us any favors?
I believe each individual TPE much be used for one play up to the value of the trade exception. So we have the Harpring 6.5 mil and now the Boozer 13 mil. Of course we must trade for our new player. It doesn't work on free agents unless they sign and trade with someone else.
Perhaps O'Connor told them that they wouldn't match the Bulls offer if they gave the Jazz the trade exception? Matching the Bulls offer was the only leverage that O'Connor really had.

For those who are confused, this means Utah basically has 13 million dollars in cap space now, but they just can't sign a guy outright. It requires a little maneuvering. It means they can trade or S&T for a guy making up to 13 million dollars without giving up any players or draft picks, just the trade exception.

TRADED PLAYER EXCEPTION -- This exception is used for trades, and cannot be used to sign free agents. It allows teams to acquire more salary in a trade than they send away. It also allows teams to take up to a year to complete some trades, banking a credit in the interim.

For example, NY can sign David Lee for 5/70 and send him to Utah for the TE. No other players/picks required.
