Jazz Getting a New GM?

If it's a trade than you'll have to take back 15 mill. That's not so easy.

This 15 mill. can be useful next summer.

))

On my second day in office I would claim that we must not rush any move. Everything must be taken into accord, and carefully examined.
I would not be heard from for 6 weeks.

Rigby is already head of the LHM group. Sounds like KOC is getting his job with the Jazz. It will be interesting to see him as a public Jazz ambassador. Rigby is one of the best in the community.

Locke:
Kevin O'Connor current title is Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager. If Jazz wanted to hire an assistant GM from another team they would have to give that person a promotion or they wouldn't be able to leave their team. Therefore, O'Connor giving up the GM title (if reports are true) maybe a bit of semantics that allow the Jazz to go get an assistant GM from another team such as Lindsay or Griffin as mentioned before

Oh, sorry about that. I agree that if he gets Rigby's job, he'll quite likely be more hands-on with personnel decisions than Rigby has been.

I don't think KOC would ever take Rigby's role. Rigby is in over the entire entertainment side of LHM. I don't think KOC would be the best guy to get ideas about what the Megaplexes should do for the opening night of the Twilight finale. KOC's role will always be Jazz exclusive.

Nice^^

Sounds eerily similar to tax evasion tho.

Oh, I didn't realize Rigby was also in charge of the LHM group in general.

But maybe KOC will become president of the Jazz and Rigby will "just" be president/CEO of LHM group.

Yep, by seperating the duties and responsiblities of the Jazz people from the LHM group it makes it easier to sale the team.

Just kidding about that team sale thing, usually a team that is going to be sold guts its roster and loads up on young players and expiring contracts and has a coach on a short term deal.

Other random thoughts:

Jeff Hornaceck would be good, but I think he will coach.

Scott Layden was a Sloan hire, not a Ty guy. He was also director of player personel or something for Utah and NY. LHM takes loyalty to an extreme, so I can see them creating a job for him.

Also, I think the team will be sold.

is this ever an ex player position? If so, I'd go with Horny or stockton. I am ok if they steal somebody from the spurs as well. They are a very well run small market team.

JVG is a great X-and-O guy. not sure how he'd be as a GM.

i also wouldn't give the job to stockton or hornacek right now. as much faith as i have in their general basketball knowledge, there is a specific set of skills and knowledge (not to mention relationships) that goes into GM work, which is why you usually see guys go through the ranks -- scout, personnel director, assistant GM, GM. you have to learn to negotiate, learn the CBA, learn all the different dates and processes... and it helps if you already have the couple hundred player reps' numbers on speed dial and are used to bumping into them at summer league or draft camps.

After giving it some thought, I like this move. KOC is old. Watching him walk makes my hips hurt, let a new guy fly to Portsmith, Treviso and Chicago. Also, the Jazz have been stable for so long that is has been years since any new blood was introduced, unless you consider Sidney Lowe new blood. A new person, new ideas, new way of doing things...you know mix it up a little.

My ideal new GM would be early to mid 40's, former player, from a championship organization or other form of cred' with the players, not afraid of technology, attends the Sloan Conference, plays moneyball and is loud and opinionated. He would make it cool to be in the SLC (as cool as it can be), reach out to former Jazzmen, and would never never, never, never trade Boom B, Donatas Montijunas, and Terrence Jones for Al Jefferson at 17 million per year.

Also, KOC is great at keeping things hush. Portland is still dragging names through the papers and the Jazz just quietly take care of business.
