Jazz Getting a New GM?

Why the hell would we hire Dennis Leary? Does he even have basketball experience? Are we replacing the National Anthem with him singing "I'm an *******"?
 
Hmmmmm....Wojnarowski is one of the best sources there is, so this might be real.

Looks like Mr. Lindsey's big FA signings all happened in 2009. He got both Theo Ratlif and Antonio McDyess.
 
Well I hope this GM has enough balls to do what needs to be done with Jefferson. And when I say this of course I mean trade him or they should send him to day spa for relaxation.

I hope whoever it is isn't quite so tight lipped as KOC. I know it's great that he moves in mysterious ways, but doesn't he know, that as Jazzfanz we need to be kept up on the inside information.
 
I will only really be impressed if he is able to get Dwight and CP3 to he Jazz in the next offseason. Can you imagine a Favors/Dwight big man line up? I would love to watch CP3 and Hayward on the court together. Instant contender?

And on Sundays, he'll be teaching a primary class.

I have no doubt KOC will still be the captain of the ship. Most everything is now in place. We're either going to sink or be a contender with Favors, Hayward, Burks and Kanter. That is KOC's second rebuild. The new GM is coimng aboard to do all the dirty work in terms of travel, negotiating contracts, etc.

And I'll bet KOC has already started to lay some groundwork for a trade involving Paul or Jefferson. Just thinking that it might also help, if the Jazz want to keep Millsap, to have a fresh face for his agents to deal with. As I noted in a previous post, there was some ill will the last time around.
 
As much as I love KOC, some of his recent moves have made me nervous, so I like this. Adding another smart voice to the braintrust can only be a good thing since he currently doesn't have anybody to really bounce ideas off.

i don't love al, but that's a pretty funny way of summing up that trade.

first of all, al has made 13M, 14M and 15M since he came here -- an average of 14M.

second, you're upset that we gave up kosta??

third, you're upset that we missed out on motiejunas? if i were trying to make that particular point, i would go with kenneth faried or marshon brooks or someone else who, you know, played meaningful basketball last season.

fourth, as much as i dislike al's game and the future consequences of keeping him on our roster and feeding him the ball 20+ times a night, none of those guys can do what al does.

Not to mention he'll now have a patsy to take the fall when everything goes to ****. Brilliant.
 
KOC was an above average GM whose fault was that he wasn't much of a risk taker, and generally went the safe and easy route. You can wind your watch to his comments regarding the team, and I wonder if he played himself into a corner a little bit toward the end of his tenure when it came to management.

The clowns that sit there and projectile out a list of names he's drafted, and go on to proclaims the busts and players, are the epitome of armchair GMs. You can go down the list of players any GM has drafted and do the same. People forget that for the majority of his tenure, KOC basically had a Jerry Sloan and a Larry H Miller stitched to his side, and all decisions were practically made within that committee of people.

As it stands, he worked out a strange roster with a logjam (there always seemed to be a 'logjam' somewhere), but with flexibility and scale. With the new CBA, it seems that middle-tier plays are now getting only 1 or two year deals- but that's something KOC did long before the playing field changed to that.

I always thought he was good at signing the mid-tier guys but he really blew it when it came to the large contracts. Memo. Boozer. Kirilenko. Great niche players that never lived up to their "well rounded player" contracts.
 
To me this shuffling looks a lot like Greg Miller taking a step back from the Jazz.

KOC is an excellent GM. There is no reason to replace him and there is no reason to believe that whoever comes in will have any real power. Why would Kevin let somebody else botch a deal he could seal himself?

I don't like it, it's a step from the ownership away from the team. That slope leads to a very ugly place.
