Jazz Getting a New GM?

KOC doesn't wanna trade milsap so he is gonna take more money(probably), bring in someone to do it(Lindsey)and do less work overall. solid

To me this shuffling looks a lot like Greg Miller taking a step back from the Jazz.

KOC is an excellent GM. There is no reason to replace him and there is no reason to believe that whoever comes in will have any real power. Why would Kevin let somebody else botch a deal he could seal himself?

I don't like it, it's a step from the ownership away from the team. That slope leads to a very ugly place.

All this is a little too fresh for you Brown. Take a deep breath, it is going to be just fine. Honestly, the Browns can't get any worse. It is only up from here.

I don't even understand the move as I'm sure that KOC will still be making all the decisions.

Locke:
Kevin O'Connor current title is Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager. If Jazz wanted to hire an assistant GM from another team they would have to give that person a promotion or they wouldn't be able to leave their team. Therefore, O'Connor giving up the GM title (if reports are true) maybe a bit of semantics that allow the Jazz to go get an assistant GM from another team such as Lindsay or Griffin as mentioned before

Oh, ok (once again my refusal to read threads all the way thru comes back to haunt me). Hey, if he wants someone else to do the grind fine with me, as long as he doesn't lose his touch.

Does Utah have an assistant GM? A lot of teams do, yet we never hear about one in Utah. I think this is basically the way to give KOC a top-tier assistant since as Weezur has noted, a promotion is needed to steal an assistant from another team.

This is a good time to do it. With the number of 1-2 yr. contracts now in play, plus the negotiations with Millsap and/or Jefferson, plus a couple of draft picks, the workload would be overwhelming. Don't forget the Jazz, who typically have 3-4 slots to fill each season (and 2 of those are their draft picks), only have 4 players under contract for next season + the PO for Marvin. Most likely, Lindsey will be concentrating on hammering out the details for guys like Mo and Foye, if the Jazz want to keep them, while Kevin does the heavy lifting with Al, Paul and/or other big FA's.

Scott Layden also came to mind.

You've been obsessed with him ever since The Picture.

Wait.... I didn't know your rotation swung that way YB, not that there's anything wrong with that.

i don't love al, but that's a pretty funny way of summing up that trade.

first of all, al has made 13M, 14M and 15M since he came here -- an average of 14M.

Hey, don't cloud my emotional rant with facts. :) If what you say is true I will remove one 'never' from my rant.

second, you're upset that we gave up kosta??
It was a depressing season, Boozer was 'injured' Memo was really injured, Ak was getting more money and playing worse, they had traded Maynor and Brewer just to make payroll--this board was full of misery and loathing. Then Kosta Koufus drops a dunk and screams Broom Witches and this board lit up. I think there was like 20 pages on the thread. It was like Christmas, everyone was smiling and happy, old feuds were forgotten, there were hugs and tears, it was beautiful. Who wouldn't want that?

third, you're upset that we missed out on motiejunas? if i were trying to make that particular point, i would go with kenneth faried or marshon brooks or someone else who, you know, played meaningful basketball last season.
Monti was the perfect draft pick for the Jazz. They already had a bunch of young guys last year, Monti is a rookie this year. He is a legit 7 footer who can dribble drive, pass, and shoot the 3. He would be perfect stretch 4/5 to play with Favors and I will cry for years that Jazz missed on him.

fourth, as much as i dislike al's game and the future consequences of keeping him on our roster and feeding him the ball 20+ times a night, none of those guys can do what al does.
You are right, none of them can do what Al does, and that is why I love them.
