What's new

Jazz @ Grizzlies 8pm ET / 6pm MT

It felt like the key moment of the game was Hayward hitting the step-back jumper late in the first half. The Jazz sure needed his offense in the third quarter.

For me it was the beginning of the third when Hayward got to thte hoop and got that basket. I immediately thought "Hayward just got going, the Grizz are in trouble".

For me it was that sequence where Favors got three quick buckets in the post.

Wow. Just think how good this team would be when the offense improves!!

All the Jazz need for that to happen is:

A starting shooter at SG (possible since the Jazz have north of 10 million to throw at one)

Burks to come back healthy next year (done, barring a freak accident)

Burke and Exum to develop even a little more (I think some development and improvement is a given)

All three are to be expected imo and none of them are far fetched. Next year the Jazz will have an elite front court and average back court. Instead of the great front court and horrible back court they do this year.

Hood can be that starting 2 guard that can shoot and the best part is that's not his only skill

Other options include. . .

• Hood making a big jump in his 2nd year and staying healthy.
• Jingles and/or Millsap improving on the offensive end under Snyder's development.
• Jazz getting lucky with who they target in free agency and landing an up-and-coming guy like the Hawks did with Carroll, Spurs did with Green or even the Jazz did with Booker.
• If DL continues to draft well and steals an underrated player with the 2015 pick OR make a splash trade and moves up for an impact player with the many assets at their disposal.
• If the Jazz cash in one or more their Euro assets, and they're able to contribute as backup, offensive minded, team-first players off the bench. One of the big strengths of both Tomic and Neto is their passing.

So my DVR is trolling me hard and always records the game on season pass with the other teams announcers... This is sometimes annoying but sometimes insightful.

Last night the announcers were talking about how Conley should have his way with Exum and how the grizzlies were respecting Gobert too much and should go at him... Anyway somehow news has no spread yet. I want to see how we do once we have a reputation and people have scouted the new jazz.

Also last night they mentioned how they were only down 4 or 5 but the d was so good it felt like they were down 10.

All the more reason to be so optimistic about the improvement the Jazz backcourt will undergo by next year.

While watching the game I recall hearing Harp saying that Hood was 8 for his last ten in three point shooting. I think he can be one of the leagues elite shooters. I'm just confused by his 69% ft shooting.

Sample size. When you barely ever go to the FT line a few misses will hurt your FT % greatly.

Rookie jitters combined with inconsistent play time due to injuries. His stroke is great and I think that the FT% will sort it self out.

Just keep working.

After going 5-5 last night his FT% today is already up to 72%, so obviously it's really a TINY sample size.

I would love to grab Matthews and roll into next year with something like:

Dante/Trey
Wes/Alec/Ingles
Gordon/Rodney/Ingles
DFav/Booker or Evans or Jerrett or our Pick (wcs? turner? who knows)
Gobert/Pleiss

That would give us great depth off the bench. If Hood continues to improve, Alec comes back strong, AND we grab another shooter our offense could actually be quite good next year.

I am so pumped about tonight's game. I want revenge, destruction and humiliation!

I want to see Gobert and Favors force the ball down anyone in a white jerseys throat. I want to see Hayward clowning any player Boston puts on him. I want to see Hood and Ingles dropping 3s, Booker igniting the team with a dunk and some attitude, Burke hitting that floater and Millsap and Exum hounding players into the stands.

I want the Jazz to own that court from baseline to baseline. I want Snyder to have a "Remember the Titans" and hear him shout "Leave no doubt!"

Someone better make a good game thread already.

ALL ABOARD THE BANDWAGON!!!!!

Also rhythm... its tough to come of the bench when you are a shooter. You warm up and then sit for 25 real time minutes before you get in the game... takes time to calibrate.

His stroke from 3 looks much more comfortable... it never looked bad, but now he just looks more relaxed. Also, his defense isn't as bad as I thought it was and he's a decent penetrator. i like his game a lot.

He's one of those guys who maybe doesn't have the ceiling of an all-star, but can end up being pretty good at a ton of different stuff. Makes for a great 4-5th starter or an awesome bench player.

I have been really impressed with his versatility, and overall he just seems way less overwhelmed the last few games. Wonder if missing a bunch and just watching for a while helped it all slow down for him.

Agree about the adjustments to come, other teams will try to adapt. But what will they do? Can they adapt to a 7'1" rim protector? And favors going strong? And Rudy bringing some O? We still need pieces, but getting better with every game almost.

I sure hope we don't come out and lay and egg tonight.
I think this is irrelevant actually. A young team on the 2nd night of a back to back after a big win is almost due for a letdown. I hope they don't but won't read anything into it if they do lose.

Celtics are on the 2nd night of a back to back. Lost in Cleveland last night.
