Jazz have arguably the worst bench in the league

I think Dennis Lindsey had a long vacation this offseason. He had to be more proactive especially after Exum injury.

Let's be realistic, how can the Jazz reach the playoffs this season with the current bench?

Burks is the only good player coming off the bench. Booker is decent player.

Trey Burke no comment.

Ingles, Johnson and Whitey are mediocre players.

Tibor Pleiss was a backup center in Europe.

Elijah Millsap is a D-League player.

Lyles is just a promise.

There are many good locker room guys but in terms of quality and skills this bench is inadequate to aim the playoffs.

Overreaction theatre. Burks is a sixth man of the year candidate, Booker is a solid bonafide NBA player, Ingles is a good bench player, Millsap was bad last night but has an NBA skill... he's fine as a 10th 11th man. Withey is a decent backup center, Tibor is our 6th big so whatever. If Trey Burke plays better (and he will) then we have an okay bench. If Trey continues to suck we can go get someone.

The timing of the exum injury left us with few options.

The idea that DL didn't do much is laughable. The guy works his *** off.

Go the NBA.com website under tranactions are puruse the guys that were just cut. There is about 100 of them. There must be somebody in that list that could help the Jazz.

Our starting point guard situation is a bigger obstacle to a playoff run than is our bench. And that doesnt even address our backup point guard situation. The under, on the over/under is looking like a good bet.

Exum injury happened the first week of August. There was lot of time to find an adequate substitute.

Millsap is a good defender but he does not bring anything else on the table. If had another family name, I'm not sure he would be in the league.

Yes the point guard situation is a big problem. Yesterday the Jazz finished the game without point guard because objectively the Jazz don't have a real pg starter. Neto is a backup point guard at best in this league.

The Exum absence is heavy.

Hood lead the team in assists.

The Exum injury leaves a gaping hole.

Meanwhile Devin Booker had a solid debut with 14 points, on 6-7 shooting.

No idea why we passed on that for such a project.

He wouldn't work out for us was one reason. While the Jazz say that doesn't effect their drafting, I think it does. They want perfect chemistry, don't want anyone who doesn't want to be here.

But neither Trey Burke or the player in your avatar, worked out for the Jazz prior to the draft.

Not gonna say I agree with everything OP wrote. Might be on to something though.. The bench is certainly pathetic compared to OKC or Houston..

Lyles could end up contributing more than you think, especially if Pleiss isn't ready for minutes.

OKC has the 17th highest paid player in the league coming off the bench. He dropped 15 and 16 in 24 minutes yesterday.

The Suns bench scored almost 60 points in a loss last night..

At the very least it should be a storyline worth keeping an eye on. I don't know If I have much faith in this bench unit as is, Booker will add some legitimacy..

After the draft and a month after free agency began... had the injury happened earlier he has way more options. At that point rolling forward with what we had was just as good. For instance Jeremy Lin was signed on July 8th.

I don't like Millsap much, but recency bias is creeping in. He will have moments this season when his defense helps us. We would have been a bit crowded on the wing had we signed one more guy, especially if Dante was playing.

If Neto gives us similarly solid efforts like he did last night and picks up on some of the nuances (which he seems to be doing quickly) then between him and running three wings we will be fine. AB and Hood can get more minutes than they played last night as well as Ingles... Burke may fall completely out of the rotation.

I'm adjusting my thoughts on Neto... he seems really basketball smart and is a hard worker. He needed to improve his jumper and it seems like he has done so. I wonder if the kid has ever had anything near the development coaching he is getting right now.

I will stand by the same thing I've been saying that we need a better 3rd big at some point who gives our frontcourt versatility and can stretch the floor. Booker is a decent stop gap for now and Lyles could be that.

we have too many cakks and pies.

This is the problem. If you can really call it a problem. We need patience. Hood, gobert, Exum are all young and neto/pleiss/Lyles are rookies.

Too many caakks, NAOS says.
