Jazz in 6

The small ball stopped working because Dallas adjusted their defense and stopped giving up wide open lanes to the basket. It probably seems pretty crazy to us Jazz fans that a coach can make an adjustment mid game, but that's what happened.

Our defense did seem better during small ball. Some of it had to do with random shooting variance as they were missing shots they were making the rest of the game. Some if it does seem to be habit/psychological that when Rudy/Whiteside isn't the game

Exactly. Real coaches will change their strategy as the game changes, but Quin will always be behind the curve. Another adjustment the Mavs made was hard doubling Mitchell every time la the in the game. It forced the ball out of his hands and the Mavs were able to recover faster than the Jazz could rotate the ball. You know, the Jazz might want to deploy that strategy if they had a real coach…but Quin will do as he’s done for years.

Regardless of who the Jazz are playing, they still have their unstoppable strategy of behind 5 out and getting Mitchell/Conley switched onto Brunson. Those two have provided zero resistance. The offense is probably better with Gobert out because he’s fumbling everything…but we’re not going anywhere with our defense.

We just need to give up on the idea that our perimeter defense can stay in front. Hard double every time Brunson has the ball, or force them to take an off the dribble 3. I don’t care how much space they have for a step back 3, it’s better than the free basket they get by the hoop or the free open corner 3. It’s flat out embarrassing to concede the same shots over and over without trying.

Oh yeah…Luka is also back. I think our hope rests in Luka coming back, dominating the offense, but being rusty.

Mitchell the only starter without a negative cumulative +/- in this series and he’s doing it in 40+ mins a game. Meaning the 8 mins he’s out the Jazz are getting royally ****ed by the other starters.

Bogey -4, Conley -17, Gobert -20, and Royce -30

Dan House is +15…. hell Whiteside is +3

A big part of that is that he got to play in the lineup with house, clarkson, bogey, paschall. Note that bogey has the smallest negative of the rest of the starters cause he played in that lineup as well. Im guessing that little 10 minutes or whatever when we went small and were like a plus 15 or whatever boosted his plus minus a bit.

Amen brother, I will be glad when the Rudy supporters leave when he gets traded. Especially Rudy's wife on here Cy

Not making 3s doesn't mean they didn't have open shots. Teams run hot and cold.

I agree. But they took less 3’s overall as well. Plus i watched the game. They had less open threes. A co worker even commented about how nice it was not giving them a bunch of open corner threes during our big comeback run. I also thought it was nice.

Snyder isn't going to make adjustments. We watched for 4 games in a row in the Clippers series, them running the same play over and over and over again without us ever changing. Snyder will continue to run the same people the same way until he gets fired in 2 games

Totally true.

The inverse is also true though… those 4 got to play with Mitchell, a top-5 all-time playoff scorer, without a giant obstacle blocking the key. He had 20 something points again in the second half.

Mitchell Bogey and Eric were the only positive +/- players last game

For all his (deserved) criticism this series, Mitchell is still averaging 33/6/3 for the series, and if continues, will probably even move up that all-time career playoff ppg leaderboard.

Seriously though I’ve never seen a top-5 PPG playoff scorer ever average 33/6/3 and get criticized like he has by his own fan base. Down right embarrassing. 75% of this board should be ashamed of themselves.

We are winning this series in 6.

Rudy needs to match any minutes Powell plays.

Pick any other 4 out of this lineup with Donovan to play small and these lineups need to get majority of the minutes:

Clarkson
House
Bogey
Paschall
Royce
Conley

Put Donovan on DFS and make House the main defender on Brunson. Switch everything.
I admire, appreciate, and even envy the optimism.... I'm just not sure where it comes from.

All I know is this **** isn't working and I'm all in for trying something different if it gives us a chance. Play someone who will give maximum effort. If it's Paschall, House, JB, NAW of even Gay let em play. Just don't give up when things get the least bit difficult. I'm to the point that if the team plays harder with anyone else besides Gobert then do it. Give ourselves a chance.
