I've always been a Royce guy...but something has gone wrong with him. He definitely doesn't play with the desperation he did when he first got here. I also think, like other Jazz players, he's gotten so used to funneling towards Gobert he can't do anything else.

I don't believe anyone "has to be gone"....more so that he doesn't have to play. I like House and Paschall much better in this series.

I think we need to get 100% high energy Royce instead of 30+ mpg Royce. We need him scrapping, clawing, busting *** when he's in there. He's valuable playing like that.

So we need to limit his minutes to 20, and demand he bust it like Bojan did yesterday. If he's out there, he goes all out. If not, he sits.

As a coach, you want top value at every position.

Royce is getting paid $9mm per. For that amount, he brings negative defensive ratings against his man and is scared on offense. Lots of upgrades @ $9mm available, that will actually step up in the playoffs instead of regressing.

They should trim the fat. If they can trade him or buy him out, they should do it.

If you are another GM or coach, would you want him on your roster?

I honestly think he's lost a step on defense. He's still just 28 but he's looked a bit slower all season.

Clarkson’s awareness/team D is awful and he definitely gives up on some plays, but sometimes an action really is as simple as staying the **** in front of your guy and this roster seems allergic to that. Maybe that’s why Quin stuck with him to close.
 
Just wanna say I like talking about winning and basketball a whole lot more than how to rebuild a broken team while they’re still in the playoffs.

That being said, we are merely responding to the situation the Jazz present. Hopefully they continue to give us reason to hope.

Maybe if he was my son or was signed at the minimum. Sorta like Mark Few of Gonzaga put his son on the team even though he has no business on a D-1 court.

Nah, scratch that. If I was a coach, I'd want to win. Not seeing Royce bring value in the postseason.

This whole board chastised me when I said he wasn't worth 9 million a year for what he brings. Welp, looking like I was spot on. Wish I was wrong but unfortunately I nailed it with this one.

Whether because of ailing knees or dogging it, it looks like he needs to take an extended seat.

It's because, as has been obvious since 2020, he can't defend guards. He's a fine player who can be serviceable in various roles, but Quin Snyder has set him up to fail by asking him to defend guards.

Exactly


Royce is clearly playing too many minutes. $9 million for how he played last year was a bargain. He just needs to play with 100% energy 18-20 mpg instead of 80% energy 32mpg.

He's a decent player but not being used correctly
