What's new

jazz is at -4.5, blazers at +4.5 in Bovada

I don't know how we are going to win games against small-ball lineups.

Didn't we win at a pretty good rate after the kanter trade last year?
How did we get those wins?

You know the Jazz have a lot of free cap room? Spending 6 million a year (what Marco got) is worth it for a 40% career shooter who won't hesitate to drop bombs.

It's true and that contract would be up by the time we need to free up space for Gobert and Exum..

I get the Ingles resigning, I think he is a steal for what he brings to our team, and I understand that chemistry is a huge part, especially for a team that finished so well last year but I'm with you that a knock-down 3 point shooter could do this team more good.

Uhh, when did Portland play a small-ball line-up?

You know Leonard and Plumlee are both 6'11?

I didn't say they did. The point is we did a horrendous job guarding 4s and 5s on the perimeter. That flaw is going to be amplified against small-ball lineups.

Too much kahuku shrimp trick and superette. I know it can make you slow and I can even feel lag when I make it to mainland.

Yeah, but the thought is that you can exploit small lineups inside, so the differences would off-set and tire out/overwhelm the small lineups and you would force the other team to adjust.

Disregarding the final score, this game powerfully validated every concern people had about the Jazz. I don't know how we are going to win games against small-ball lineups.

Don't panic. I think Lyles will be huge in that regard. I don't know why he didn't play much tonight. My guess is Quin is just experimenting a lot. I fully expect Lyles to be much improved by the season's end so even if the Jazz struggle big time against small-ball lineups, it won't be for long.

The biggest crap thing about today was how scared some of our wings are to shoot a 3.

Millsap was wide open in the corner numerous times with Leonard guarding him 10 feet off and Sap would constantly pump fake and drive a few dribbles into Leonard and just pass it. Burks would do the same thing. Even Hood (got to the point where Quin had to yell at Hood to shoot) and Ingles hesitated to shoot it. Just embarrassing. You have to be ready to shoot and shoot with confidence.

Well if you don't like him then you can be mad. I am soooo mad today about Lyle again. I know we can have booker and suns would not swap because they know Jazz are stupid

Exploiting small lineups inside isn't very effective when your team can't shoot. Whenever anybody gets the ball in the paint they get swarmed by help defenders.

really instead of re-signing a guy like Ingles, who is an OK shooter who shoots a slow shot, we should have gotten someone like Marco Bellineli who can be a lights out shooter.

I can't remember who it was that was saying we should go after a 3 point shooting wing this summer. Kept starting threads and being super annoying about it. Who was it? Thinking...

Ohhh yeah it was me.

Lillard not playing tonight.

Bet it.

I have heard that the jazz will be going hard tonight.
After the Hawaii trip they feel like they are a little behind because they didn't get to practice as much so they have been practicing hard and going over allot of film.
And it's the first game in front of their fans. They will want a good showing.
I would take this bet.
Jazz win easy tonight fellas

Oopps.

Now a serious question, Rudy can turn it on like a switch right? He is just taking it easy because he played for France all summer?

Yes, I think Rudy is clearly just taking it easy because of playing all summer.

Meh, he took 2 or 3 open threes tonight.

He took 2 in the first quarter then gave up. That's how the Jazz offense gets clogged because defenders know we have some wings whose scouting reports probably read "dude doesnt want to shoot 3's, wants to pump fake and drive".
