What's new

jazz is at -4.5, blazers at +4.5 in Bovada

Portland was packing the paint all night. Even when they weren't playing zone, they may have well have been. They weren't guarding shooters at the top of the key, let alone the 3-pt line.

The point is our wings have to be ready to shoot and to shoot it with confidence. Just because you miss a couple early doesn't mean to stop taking them.
Maybe it does mean that - dude had pretty good success getting to the rim and scoring or drawing fouls. You do what hurts the other team and helps you win and will lead to success. The alternative is to keep jacking like Hood and Hayward did and kill any case chance your team has.

I mean, why would any team defend us any other way?

I wonder if the Jazz just practiced hard today. It's a bit odd for everyone to be off like that all on the same night.

Hayward 3/15
Hood 3/12
Favors 2/11

There was something awry with our shot tonight. Burks and Ingles were the only player who even shot well at all, everyone looked extremely timid and unconfident. Hayward would pull off one creative move and then a fidgety and awkward turnover the next. Gobert looked like a poor man's Shawn Bradley.

But hey, it's preseason. What the **** are we even watching here? We all know how little preseason means. And let's not forget how the Jazz looked in the first two games. If anything, this shows you how little what we saw in this game matters. But I will say this, the only thing stopping us is ourselves. We are the force, we are the power, bring it down Carl, bring it down

More conclusions:

Pleiss doesn't look ready. Favors is going to have to play more mintues at the 5. Withey should make the team and can handle spot minutes, but not a whole lot more.

If Booker isn't playing well and Lyles isn't ready, Hayward or Ingles may take some minutes at the 4.

Burks is likely going to get regular PG time.

The above opens up minutes at the wing for Millsap and possibly Johnson too. Millsap seems to be ahead of Chris Johnson on the depth chart at the moment.

Jazz might be able to put Jerrett in the D-league and use his injury to keep him from getting picked up by other teams. Not sure. He'd be kept around in case he can shoot the damn ball.

I don't see how Cooley or Graham make the team. Cotton is on the bubble at best.

Forgot how to spell your first name?

Bobby Portis with 20 pts. and 11 rebs. Shot 8/12. In all fairness he got a lot of that against Ryan Andersen, but still...

Portis going to have several games like this. Lots of rebounds, high percentage shooting, a few steals and blocks, pick him up in your fantasy draft. Yes sirie it would be a real smart move to draft Portis.

Maybe it's just me, but Favors and Rudy didn't seem in it all that much. I know the refs were really calling BS fouls against them. But still, not much energy. However it was great to see Burks play well. Really impressed with his passing ability.

Kyle Lowry with 40 pts on 18 shots. That's got to be nice to have.
Damn
Any chance the raptors are interested in a young point guard in his contract year, a 19 year old rookie from Kentucky, and a 7 foot 3 German center?
