What's new

Jazz @ Lakers - Sunday, March 18, 7:30pm

What's the status of the vets? Any of them sitting this game as well?

I know Al Jefferson is out. Pretty sure Bell will be sitting this one out as well.

Hate to be debbie downer, but...

The Lakers are 19-2 at home. This is the best home record in the NBA. They are also one of the hottest teams currently in the WCF, fresh off of a 5 game win streak; not to mention the fact that they might have improved considerably since the trade went down.

Fully expecting a loss here, unfortunately. If we somehow pull a win in this game though, I think we might be able to make a playoff run. Probably the biggest game of the season thus far.

Besides the Jazz always play well in LA.......

Agreed, if we can somehow win this game, I will be chugging the playoff kool-aid. I highly doubt we do though. It's going to take an unreal performance from Paul and Favors.

We do have a huge bench advantage though. Hayward, Burks, Kanter, Tinsley, and Evans have to dominate the game over Sessions and the LA Bench Scrub Unit.

Lakers have won 5 in a row too.

Already mentioned it Chad, jeeeez!!! :)

But seriously, we have an extremely low chance of pulling out a W here. Our key to the game is the bench, much like Cy said.

I blame my attention span. I don't read posts that are more than a couple sentences long. My bad. But hey did you hear the Lakers have won five in a row?

Nah I didn't; but I just heard the the Lakers haven't lost in any of their last five games!!!

There was a team riding an even longer winning streak earlier this year, only to be stopped by the Jazz. I know, I know - that was a home game (vs. Miami) but we've got a chance, guys! Especially since Favors will be out there defending Gasol/Bynum. I don't like the fact that Millsap will be out there because he typically gets owned by Gasol/Bynum but at least Favors/Kanter will see more playing time with Jefferson out.

I love our rebounding. Per 48, Kanter's 7th, Millsap's 24th, Jefferson's 26th, and Favors is 28th. I'm actually surprised we're just 10th in the league and 5th in differential.

But watch Ty try to run the offense through Sap anyway. We will see a series of swats and contorted off-balance leapin' leaners from Paul. Jazz coaches are nothing if not persistent: "Sap will get those 7 footers this time!".

This is the type of situation/game where you run the pick and pop for Millsap rather than rolling him or having him post up. They've got way too much size for him to be trying anything inside.

Millsap has pwnd the Lakers this year.

3 game averages are

21 ppg, 10 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal on 55% shooting.

This is the biggest game of the year. Utah wins this and they have to believe they can beat anybody.

I pegged LA as a lottery team early in the season but they have been so lucky. I thought for sure Bynum or Gasol would lose a month to injury. Kobe playing 40 mpg on bad knees, no PG or SF, terrible coach in Brown, etc. They are just not as good as they were a year ago. The emergence of Bynum and his career year is really disgusting.

That team has flaws, however. LA will try to control the tempo and play a half court game. If Utah gets stops without doubling they will have opportunities to run and they are faster and much deeper than the hated Lakers. LA is very shallow and McBob is a scrub player compared to what Odom brought.

IMO the key to this game is our bigs, especially Kanter having great rebounding and defensive games. Utah has the advantage if they can speed up the game.
