What's new

Jazz @ Lakers - Sunday, March 18, 7:30pm

We all know also that leaning on Boozer to provide points (at the price of his pathetic defense) was often a counterproductive strategy, as has been leaning on Al for scoring if his defense is subpar.

If Corbin had been stressing D, he'd have been insisting more D out of Big A--and playing the young bigs more if Big A wasn't giving it. Can't just play on one side of the court.

This recent success is a big credit to the players' willful and natural development -- and a partial serendipity on the part of Corbin who, like Sloan, has accidentally fallen into this success when he was forced to through injuries and absences, even though he's had plenty of opporunity to see to this point that a higher mix of the young bigs and Burks was better.

Do you think the Lakers just suck? Or is there a possibility that Utah and CJ in particular created a situation in which it was difficult for LA to score with their perimeter players? Is it possible that Coach C could have a little bit of credit for this win?

great game to watch. burks was brilliant in the 4th, he looked more kobe than kobe.

speaking of kobe, just stop shooting the ball son, pass it.

Jazz players definitely showed up with their **** you attitude tonight. Favors and Kanter are even showing some swagger (Favors getting excited, Kanter throwing a bow).

favors better calm down because i dont the lord of the emotions posts to stop, they are just too funny.

Admittedly, I wake up, and am shocked we won. 29 and 18 from Favors and Kanter against the Lakers bigs. Great. Especially considering they only averaged just over 26 minutes each and were 65% from the floor against the Lakers who have the 2nd best defensive fg% in the league.

Yeah, this was the first game we played that made me okay with making the playoffs. (I know, I sin.)

I hope the young guys have given mgmt the warm and fuzzies to deal a vet or two, or three.

This team can be special.

And they showed why the 2nd game in a row
- great defense, a lot of stops
- a ton of talent
- chemistry
- a lot of players +10 points (usually this doesn't happens with BigAl on the floor - but I hope coaches will figure it out something)

ps. Alec Burks will be an All-Star

Yes, it's possible that the Lakers particularly sucked last night. That doesn't say much about Corbin's coaching, although maybe he said something obvious about seizing the opportunity.

Or is there a possibility that Utah and CJ in particular created a situation in which it was difficult for LA to score with their perimeter players?
Yes, CJ played surprisingly good defense. It might have been an anomaly; hopefully it's a trend. That may or may not say anything about Corbin's coaching, but kudos for him DOING HIS JOB--playing the best rotation on a given night. It's much easier when he doesn't have the temptation to play some of his flawed veterans (AJ and RB), which Corbin has gone back to game after game recently--just like Sloan did for years (CB and MO).

Is it possible that Coach C could have a little bit of credit for this win?
Ok, just a little bit. Feel better?

Cute quip, but it isn't hindsight. Corbin did just what I've been pounding the table for for years. If I had just come up with this theory after the fact, then your wittiness would hold water.

The only time required was for him to do what makes sense (and for enough players to be injured for him to be semi-forced into doing it); that's not on me.

But I don't deserve the credit anyway; Popovich (and sometime Thibodeau (who was available for the Jazz years ago)) implemented it before I came up with it.

****, you're right. That's why Burks was in to close the game. Corbin just won't play those guys.

*******.

You do realize that the starting SG, the Kobe-Killer, Raja Bell was injured and could not play last night, right? Do you really think that Burks would have played or played more than a few minutes last night if Bell was available? I don't, I doubt Corbin would have played him at all, cause you just need that veteran leadership against a good team. No way CJ could hold down Kobe like Raja could, and Raja has shown many times his wonderful clutch offense in the 4th.

Corbin got bailed out by a bad abductor muscle, plain and simple. That and a dead grandma, because he would have started Big A and Bynum/Gasol would have ripped it up in the 1st quarter. Instead, the forced-to-be-the-starter Favors did a nice job confounding Bynum early on, setting a bit of tone. yes, Bynum/Gasol still had good games, just not as good as they would have had if Big A had been playing "defense".

If your theory was correct Hayward would have closed the game instead of Burks. Go to your room.

Is Bell injured, really? Don't injured players usually travel with the team. I seriously saw Raja at the Cheesecake Factory yesterday. Or is this just an agreement between him and the Jazz to sit him out?

Whatever it takes man.

Probably the only NBA city where the players all hang out at cheesecake factory. I heard Hayward and Evans are regulars.

I think we starting to see who Hayward is.

He drives to pass in the half court. If his jumper doesn't go in on the first two he won't be looking to score for the rest of the game. He sprints the court almost everytime and tries to get easy fast break buckets. He plays pretty good D.

Seems like this is who he is going to be long term. A good player but little star potential and 3rd offensive option at best. Unless he suddenly develops better body control and quickness going to the rim he isn't going to improve much more.

We are just starting to scratch the surface of what Burks, Kanter and Favors can do.

Harris has been playing better and better for a couple of weeks now. It makes a really big difference for our team.

It was interesting to see how a Millsap-Kanter combo helped to create space for Kanter to operate. I don't know how to find more minutes for Kanter and Favors. Millsap is playing great and Jefferson has been on an offensive roll.

I agree on Hayward. I do not think that is bad. I think he will be an outstanding 6th man.

Hopefully more but this is needed as well. A team needs an outstanding 6th man. 1 more piece to the puzzle
