Jazz Likely Standing Pat

DL could be playing "chicken"with trade partners by leaking the no deal imminent message. No reason to overpay or needlessly waste assets that could be valuable in the summer.

Honestly, Dallas has no leverage to demand a first round pick, even a crappy one, without sending more assets. Everyone knows they are tanking and the buyer list for D-Will is pretty much us and a Cleveland team with no assets to give.

To make D will work PT wise we either move AB or bench Exum or AB. Both are trying to find a rythymn. I just think there'd be some value in getting D Will now and seeing how he integrates. If Hill resigns we could move AB in offseason and sign dwill for less than 10M per... would be protected against Dante not developing. If Exum hadn't played well before the break this question gets much easier.

He also has a no trade so he could veto a trade to a team he doesn't like.

Does Deron strike you as a ring chaser? Maybe, but he wouldn't really have much of a future in Cleveland after this season. Utah would be a better fit for him personally. No other market will love him like the Utah Jazz fans will. He's tasted that.

I think DWill is definitely a ring chaser. Winning a championship has always seemed like his #1 goal. He is a much better fit in Cleveland than anywhere else. Utah market does not love DWill he gets booed every game still. I think some fans would be happy to see him back but just as many still hate him. I dont really see how he helps the Jazz that much this season except for Injury insurance for Hill. I would rather see Exum get the backup minutes and develop but I guess if Hill isnt healthy for the playoffs I would rather see DWill/Exum than Exum/Mack. But I would much rather Hill just be healthy and ready for the playoffs, which I think he will be.

His salary is also high enough it would be tough to match without giving up a contributor.

Is that why he signed with Dallas? I think he just went there cuz he wanted to go home, somewhere he felt wanted.

I dont think he had many options and I think he thought Dallas would be much better. I dont know if he thought they would go to the finals or anything but I am sure he thought they were making a last big push with good players and Dirk. All he talked about in Utah was how to get us to the level to win championships and how we needed other stars to come here. All he talked about in Brooklyn was championships.

Brooklyn tried to trade him for anything and no one wanted him. No one had any interest in him on the waiver wire. It does not sound like anyone pursued him after clearing. Or at least teams that offered more than the minimum.

A D-Will that spurned Lebron to play in Utah would be one of the most popular players on the team almost immediately. People don't hate Deron for "the incident" they hate him because he plays for another team. Frankly, I am not willing to bet the house that Hill remains healthy from here on out, especially at the usage we will require of him with the cast of backups that we have. Yeah, a ring chaser doesn't sign in Dallas like D-Will did. He may want a ring, but not as an afterthought add-in to a team that already did it without him.

After the cluster of what happened with the Nets, I suspect Dallas sounded the best for him at that point. It was home and pretty player friendly. I suspect that his phone was ringing pretty heavily when he was available. I just get the feeling that Deron is a pretty broken spirit and wants to be somewhere where he is loved rather than a mercenary.

I don't get why we hate him so much. It wasn't a bad thing that he left. He wasn't the same player and we had nothing to build around him.

The real tragedy in all the rebuild was the Millers deciding to try to squeeze every last dollar out of the fans before rebuilding, letting Al and Millsap and Korver walk for nothing, postponing the rebuild for two years and missing out on some great drafts and shortened lockout season that would have been perfect to tank in.

Once again, the greed of the Millers has significantly hurt this franchise.

But, yeah, they just saved themselves 200 million dollars, oh man! We love them SO MUCH!!!!

No, a lot of people hate him for what they perceive as chasing Sloan away. He didnt have any options when he signed with Dallas. No other team was perusing him. I am not opposed to DWill but I dont really see a need for him. We can sign DWill or another PG in the off season if we need to, if Hill doesnt re-sign or is too much $.

***Utah Jazz trade deadline news: crickets***

Utah Jazz are the new LA Clippers of the NBA. Good enough to almost get fans excited but purposefully built for failure. They aren't trading anyone of consequence today and they aren't willing to take the chances necessary. They built this team to be at best a 3rd seed in a year or two. Get used to it as that's what the fans want and so that's all Dennis Lindsey will deliver you.

Deron never hit the open market after his buyout. He signed immediately with Dallas. His "not having options" is simply not true. He went where he, and especially his wife, wanted to go. And if we can see for pennies how D-Will operates on this team, before inking him to a long term contract it would be kind of silly not to. I'm not comfortable with any of the backup pgs for a playoff run, especially if Hill is in any way hobbled.

I would probably have a conversation with Hayward before I moved on this, just to make sure that he is OK with it.

It is what the Millers do. Be good enough to make money, but not good enough to cost you money. They are ingenious when it comes to this. Hype up the hope, spend the money.

I am more comfortable with Exum and prefer to develop him than the risk of DWill. DWill is no long term solution either. He is help for this year in the playoff and maybe a little bit as backup next year. He is too old and not good enough to be a starter on a quality team. Exum is our future. If for some reason he is not than we need to pursue a younger better fit PG soon. Although the Jazz organization still seems pretty sold on Exum.

The only reason to get him is if the Jazz think Hill wont be able to play in the playoffs. Even then there are probably better options. Dwill is just as much or more injury prone than Hill.

No team looked at Dwill in trade, no team looked at him on the Waivers. He did go to Dallas pretty fast after but no team was even rumored to be waiting for him to clear waivers. There was very little interest in him in the league.
