Jazz Likely Standing Pat

And somehow the government gets to collect hundreds of millions because Gail Miller dies? Yeah, seems pretty shady to try to forestall something like that. . .

And the Millers get to profit off the use of roads, police, fire, tax breaks, etc.

Someone has to pay taxes. The laws are pretty clear. Which is why they put it into a trust.

So, yeah, the government gets to collect hundreds of millions of dollars when she dies. They kept her afloat with corporate welfare while she was alive. This is just her repaying all the taxes she got out of while she was alive.

Because the Millers and their employees pay no taxes? Remember that time when the Millers held the City hostage and threatened to move the team if they didn't pay for a stadium? Yeah, neither do I. . .

Every Jazz player is pretty happy right now. Nice little bonus from being under the salary floor if we dont sign anyone.

Jazz kept all their picks in a draft many are saying is 60 deep. DL commits to Exum as the backup PG and is counting on Favs to get healthy. Or, with Hood coming back, perhaps they still move JJ to PF full-time.

Still surprised Mack wasn't moved. Maybe DL wanted too much (Osman?) and was hoping Cavs would acquiesce at the deadline.

I'm ok with standing pat.

Did you know they have had laws passed that do not allow other car dealerships to be open 7 days a week, because they don't want to be open 7 days a week?

What about when the Utah Red Zone started taking money out of their pockets? Did they get better, invite the competition and let the best man win? Nope, they went to the legislature to have the stores shut down, which they will be once the leases run up.

LHM also pushed for laws that shut down a lot of small time used car dealers and made it much harder to start up your own business. LHM was as slimy of a person as any. `

I love estate taxes. I've got my own opinions about hoarding wealth etc. etc.

We save $3 M in cash if we sign someone to a prorated 4.2M contract... will the millers give $3M away or try to use that... I'm guessing the latter but who knows.

Could offer D will a 2 year deal at 5 or 6 per with an option on either side or some other player that gets bought out. Also wasting 13m in cap space asset would be another ding on our resume imo. I see nothing positive about it and doubt it buys us any consideration with our players.

Signing D-Will to a multi year deal would be weird. I'm sure D-Will is probably viewed as a backup plan if we can't re-sign Hill.

Even if we did sign hill both guys are versatile and can play both guard positions... move on from AB or whoever in the offseason.

Just a way to give him more dough this year and get a discount next year.

Lmao

60 deep?

Wondering what the Cavs trade consisted of. I'm assuming the Cavs wanted to trade us a 2nd and McRae for Mack or something like that. Definitely not worth it as McRae sucks and a Cavs 2nd is one of the last picks in the draft.

I hope Williams signs with us and the Cavs have bad PG play. If the Cavs don't sign Williams they better pray Kyrie stays healthy, else they're done.

This is so asinine it's hardly worth commenting on.

Do you know what estate tax the Miller kids will have to pay when Gail dies?

Do you understand why billionaires put their property into trusts to protect their children and grandchildren from ever paying estate taxes?

Don't be dumb. That's not your style.

It is your style, it seems, however.

It's funny to me that the self-proclaimed Einstein's of this board think that Gail Miller has figured out a tax cheat that no other team owners are aware of.

What Gail did was to try and avoid a situation where the team gets sold and moves after she dies. Part of that was avoiding a tax problem that would basically force the kids to sell.

Some of you idiots need to ask yourself why the Miller's don't just sell right now if it's all about the money, because they could all be far richer than by doing what Gail just did. Oh, and INB4 some *** clown claims they have to keep the team to sell some cars, der.

Gail Miller did a really nice and selfless thing by taking unprecedented actions to make sure the team stays in Utah, yet there's always going to be a few riders of the short bus that are sure they are being cheated somehow. Un-****ing-believable.

She did more than that. She added the stipulation that profits would be reinvested into the Jazz. She didn't have to do that.

I remember someone saying something about Hoffa in relation to them selling cars and losing business when we didn't resign him. Great memories here on this forum.

That's a very broad statement. There's no reason she can't just increase the salaries of certain executives, namely family members, thus keeping profits down some. In short, there are many creative ways to keep that in the family.

As long as players like Allonzo Trier are being projected in the 50's you're not going to hear any arguments from me. This is probably a better understanding than many seem to have about this draft.. It'll certainly be loaded to the gills with PG's..

There are going to be very good undrafted free agents from this class nomatter the declaration/withdrawals.

worth mentioning the 60th pick in the draft a few years back is now one of the top-5 MVP candidates ..
