Jazz looking for a backup center....

After watching his highlights, there is some skills there. I know it is the D-league but we are talking about give gobert 10-12 minutes of rest. I am fine with letting Pleiss or Whithey battle it out for backup center.

I don't know why you can't play Pleiss or Whitey for 8-10 minutes as a backup especially Pleiss since you thought enough about him to give him a 3 million dollar/yr contract. He has some nice low post moves and has a nice jumpshot. Lyles is going to be the second team outside shooter.

Yes, they were last summers big FA signings, let them play.

Summer league is very important for Tibor this year.

Hang with me here... Why not go get Terrence jones and use him as backup center? Not many backups scare me and I think he'd cause matchup problems playing alongside our bench group. Not a great shooter but with space might be good and may be able to give something. Also helps us if we have a favs or lyles injury.

Another option would be Brandon bass... I think withey fine if we need a traditional center and favs can play some non Gobert minutes. Jones or bass could probably play with any of our other bigs.

Meyers and Withey? Jazz will definitely have the market cornered on 7 foot pretty boys.

If they can somehow bring back Fes they'd have the makings of the most unique boy band in music history.

Man, Meyers Leonard - what a bizarre shooting trajectory. Plays two years at Illinois, 7'1", strong, athlete prospect - problem? can't shoot. He shot 12 threes in two years there making 1.

Rookie year shoots 7 threes all year. 2nd year goes 0-6 all year. So, 4 years of basketball 185 games, dude is 4-25 from 3pt range.

Third year in the NBA, shoots 112 threes, making 42%! last year takes 228 threes making 38%. unreal. i imagine there is nothing like it in NBA history.

All true - but the problem is the guy is soft, soft, soft.

Pau Gasol? Seems like the best fit to me. Sounds like his top options are San Antonio, Portland and Minnesota. I honestly think the Jazz would be just as good (if not better) of a fit for him. I can understand the interest in San Antonio, but the Jazz can offer him more money for essentially the same role (if Duncan comes back.)
I heard that other day that duncan has said he will play next season

Wow. That's crazy.
I would love the jazz to get him

I have always been a big big fan of Brandon brass (kind of like my irrational amount of love I had for malik rose back in the day. I even chose malik rose jersey # a couple years in some of my rec league ball) and I really like terrence jones too.

Bass seems like he has been around forever.

Pleiss, meyers leonard, withey, fess, and rudy would be a huge success as a musical group.

I think they'll do more of the same - when Gobert is resting Favors plays the five. It will likely continue. I like Withey and he's played well when Gobert has been injured. If Pleiss isn't sent to the D-League, I don't know how he's going to see floor time. It will be fun to see him play summer league - I think the guy just needs to get comfortable playing. He can run the floor and he has coordination. And I agree - Jazz paid him enough to lure him over here - but we've got some nice depth at center. Though if Pleiss can hit that jumper he'll earn some minutes - especially if he can lure a defensive-minded center out of the paint with a consistent jumper.

Yeah, if they don't sign a free agent center, then I think that's what they'll do. The power forward position is pretty stacked with Favors, Lyles, some Johnson, and even some Hayward if need be. So they can definitely afford some Favors at the 5.

The real issue is that they're screwed if either Favors or Gobert gets injured. So I hope they do sign someone for backup 5 that's a step up from Withey and Pleiss.

I see your point, but I don't think any team can have the kind of insurance that you hope for... at every position. If Gobert gets injured, I think Withey can be trusted to give the Jazz 25 minutes of hustle, rebound and an occasional dunk at the 5. Favors can slide to the 5 for some minutes also; so can Lyles. A better player than Withey would demand regular minutes, which could end up hurting team chemistry.

Aldrich already got scooped up by Minnesota. This year's free agency is nothing short of surreal.

I assume DL is working on a few things this week. Hill's contract gets finalized which is supposedly involving other parts. Maybe that means we move a 2nd rounder (like the 2187 pick we got for Burke) or maybe we get one coming in. Gobert's agent is in town looking to get a long deal accomplished. I think this makes sense all around, but will likely take precedence over other moves. Hopefully his agent doesn't go full Horford on the Jazz. I'm also seeing from Jody's tweets that Mack's going to get his option picked up by the Jazz. Doesn't mean we'll keep him, obviously, but that's a pretty big week all around. Last up, after Hill, I'm betting, DL gets down to a center. And I while if Withey/Pleiss is the best we've got and we haven't overspent, I'd be happier if we convinced Pau this is a good situation. I can see a nice rotation of him and Gobert and Favors at the 5 with Withey and/or Pleiss as insurance against an injury or to take some minutes in blowouts...

I think we need more of a PF than a center. Right now we have favs and lyles that can play pf... Joe Johnson is not a small ball 4 IMO... Hayward may play there a bit.

At center we have Gobert, favs, withey all as good options... And Pleiss who might be an NBA player... Maybe???

With how the NBA is rolling I think a jones or bass are more effective than guys like Hawes.

Another option ismcroberts but I'd want additional compensation to take him from the heat.
