Jazz - Nuggets: Round 1

Unless we actually get something good for Conley I wouldn't trade him. I'd move him to the bench like Quin tried to this season... let him dominate the ball on the second unit.

I am kind of all in on Morgan, Brantley, and Oni being good bench players next year... or at least passable. If Mike took up some of JC's minutes and all of Mudiay's minutes tonight then we win... put defenders and hustlers around him and we are good.

Give DM the keys with Ingles in the first unit. He can get more shots up that way and have better defenders/length around him.

Just want to remind everyone that Quin wanted to do this before the front office stepped in.

Imagine if we had gotten Morgan some run during the season and he felt comfortable doing more than just standing in the corner on offense.

I believe someone somewhere said he should be our backup center. TB was really bad tonight... I think he will get better though... looked really nervous.

Clarkson scoring is a heavy need for our bench, and his shotmaking is a joy to watch when he's hot and all, but if we're unable/unwilling to move Conley, i think we'd be better using our MLE to add the best wing defender we can get out there than resigning Clarkson (considering that we wouldn't do both to avoid the tax after covid financial hit). Even get another depth scoring pg on a bargain/exception don't seem harder to get then a decent 3nD wing

We might be on to something with Morgan and the starters... obvi one game so not saying he's a panacea... but he might give us some the the stuff Favs/Rudy front court did while providing more shooting/playmaking.

Maybe... I think we can retain JC at something reasonable and that he wants to be here. I don't know that there is a meaningful upgrade over Oni, Brantley or whatever we can get in the bargain bin.

Say we sign a guy like Harkless to a MLE type deal... is he better than Oni/Brantley? 9M better? are we able to replace JC's production. The Conley JC bench units killed it in a smallish sample. A bench wing is going to get like 14-18 minutes when we are healthy. Doubt we get anyone better than Royce or Bojan.

It was silly to have JC in at the end when Mitchell was giving us all the offense we needed.

We needed one tipped rebound, one hustle play, etc. to avoid that overtime. Morgan could’ve delivered.

Really like him and was impressed with his performance. Hopefully he builds off of that.

Good point. There were a couple of defensive rebounds that we could have used Favors for. We do miss the little things he used to do for us.

Sincerely, at this point i don't see that if we have Bojan on this game instead of Clarkson or Ingles and then we're able to get stops. Being faster and having more stamina than Ingles and having that big of size and strenght advantage on Clarkson he's maybe even the worse rebounder of the three, while not having the Ingles footwork, active hands, bbiq and capacity to absord contact. His plus for me is that even if he's maybe even worse than Clarkson as a playmaker, he's better than Clarkson and Ingles at getting buckets, on and off ball, so he's able to take some load out of Mitchell hands on late game situations while also being a even better floor spacer than Clarkson and Ingles (and problably over Conley too, but Conley maybe make for it on his playmaking).

Harkless would be a very limmited offensive gun ? For sure, but he'd be able to help our defense, especially come crunch time and playoff time. At this point, for me, if we don't use our mle on a wing that is read to play right now, then we're fully counting on the draft pick being a guy read to play the minutes he steps in, or that at least one of our g-leaguers take all the leaps needed to be a consistent rotational piece, and if they don't we simply run again this defensive setup of at least 2 to 3 average at best to not defenders on the floor and pray for uncontested bricks.

Source? First time I'm hearing that.

I agree. Donny should be the PG and the jazz should roll with these bigger lineups.

Few thoughts:

- DM is a beast and should run the point going forward. If this isn't clear as day he's ready to take that step, then idk what is.
- Having Donny play the point allows the jazz to run a bigger lineup. The starting unit dominated the glass.
- I'm done with Niang. We all saw this coming: once the playoffs started, teams would turn on the defensive clamps, and he'd be shut down. His body language is terrible, and his effort on D is worse. We just can't afford to have somebody like that have burn at this stage...
- Snyder made some baffling calls... leaving Ingles to get cooked by Murray over and over and over again... was the definition of insanity

This is just one game, but I wasn't impressed with Gobert much today. Yes, he had moments. 4 blocks were great. Overall, I don't think he impacted the game and limited Jokic as much as I expect him to.

He was a good player today, but would a player like Jarret Allen do most of the same? Gobert is better, but max better?

If Bojan took Niang's minutes or relieved Joe a bit during the game we win. Bojan is very good... One of the best shooters in the league with size. He makes a big differ

my source is Quin... he came out and said Mike would love to the bench... they interviewed Mike... DL then paid Quin a visit and he changed his mind. It isn’t a secret... google Mike Conley benched and I’m sure you’ll get what you are after.

Now having a few hours to digest the game, I am actually more confident about winning the series then I was before the game started.

Reason being, we let them shoot lights out from deep which is against their average and easily correctable. That coupled with the fact that we should have Conley back by game 3 or 4 for added fire power and depth lead me to believe that the Jazz are more than capable of beating the nuggets in this series.

If we win at least 1 of the next 2 games and then get Conley back, we will win the series. Book it Dan-o!

Rudy is what he is -- 17 pts, scores off of rolls and putbacks, guards the paint, intimidates people, gets blocks.

It hurts to lose this one. We're up 4 with 1:45 left to play. If Donovan doesn't get a brain-fart 8-second violation and we score anything, we're up 5, 6 or 7 with less than 90 seconds left. Denver's in a scramble at that point. Instead Murray hits a free 3pt shot, and the game is a toss-up.

But yeah, I think we're absolutely in this series.

Max player ? Absolutely. Supermax ? Not really confident about it, but also can't see that many teams better than us throwing a max offer at him.

Would Jarret Allen do most of it ? Just most of the bad part of course, and much more of the bad part. At least try to compare Rudy to someone good like Adebayo or Capela.

I know Rudy is a good player. I know his contributions are valuable. I'm just pointing out that he didnt do anything to take over at any point today.

Would we have been just as good with Jarret Allen and Favors at center taking turns at Jokic but a big upgrade on the wing to support Donovan? I think so.

For what he provided today, I wouldn't pay him max much less supermax. Rudy's play will be interesting to track this series. Best offensive center vs best defensive center. Jokic won round 1.
