Jazz Offseason Plan

DL plans he worked out (no pun intended) are going swimmingly. Get everyone in for a workout or minicamp or expand summer league to 20 teams so that any time someone pops up with a good game, you get the tweets about how you had them on your radar.
I hear we were very high on him.

The package hasn't been determined yet.

I guess the question is, would we trade Bojan and Favors in order to get back Love and draft assets? Contractually, Bojan and Favors combine to make about the same as Love the next two seasons.
Depends on what draft picks they gonna give us. Cavs have tons of second round draft picks and it wouldn't excite me for one bit if DL was still in charge cuz you know he was just gonna waste them all.

Love is better than Bojan as a player when healthy. Favs' 5pt/5reb is easily replaceable with a vet min. So player wise it's about even. Cavs might not do it though if they don't like Bojan enough and Favs is pretty much a salary dump everywhere at this point.

Yeah, a 3rd team would have to be involved. Maybe the Knicks want to add Sexton and Bojan. They would seem to fit clear needs for them and could come at a bargain cost.

The Knicks also have a lot of extra 2nd rounders in the next few drafts (2 in 2021, 1 in 2022, 4 in 2023, 3 in 2024). And maybe Cleveland sees value in somebody like Knox.

If the Jazz are trying to get off Favors in a LT saving move, I would guess they move Favors +30 to move back in the draft. Toronto would make the most sense. Toronto would get 30th and Favors, Jazz get 46/47.

Would be a ****** deal IMO and one I wouldnt do, but if they are trying to save money, it would save them a lot of money.

**** I’d be happy with getting any assets back in a Favors/30 deal lmao.

Sexton would be an interesting trade idea if Conley left. Don’t know what they’re asking or if we’d even be able to put together a package for him but I like him a lot. He fits Donovan’s timeline perfectly.

A team needs space or a trade exception to do that sort of deal.

If we are dumping Favs I would bet that OKC is involved… they have a bunch of space they will open up in free agency but also have trade exceptions they can use now.

The idea I’ve been pitching is Favs for Williams… add in a 30 for second rounder swap if they’d like… not sure they have a ton of interest in moving up 6 spots but they have a couple picks in the 30s and a pick in the 50s (where they are sold for cash anyways). Might have to do a future pick instead to grease those wheels.

Sexton is talented, but the fit with Mitchell has high potential to be horrid. Sexton probably has the highest (negative) differential in his perceived defensive ability and his actual defensive ability. Outside of that, he is just too similar to Mitchell with even worse habits.

I think Sexton is a good buy opportunity for a more functional team. He’s a ball hog but he’s talented and I like how competitive he is. I’d like to see him with good teammates.

All of this. I really like him but not for us…. Didn’t mention that caveat in my Sexton post.

Sexton/Mitchell would be far and away the worst defensive backcourt in the NBA.
I think they’d also bring out the worst in each other on offense. Ball Hogging is really contagious. Guys don’t pass if they don’t think it’s coming back.

I could also be wrong but I don’t feel like Conley was that great of a defender this year in the playoffs. Maybe there is some advance metrics that support him but I feel like he had issues staying in front of guys against Memphis.

We couldn’t defender the perimeter against the Clippers but if nobody can guard Sexton/Mitchell does it really matter?

Conley was easily our 2nd most impactful perimeter defender this year, which is saying very little obviously, but he was good.
