If he's not back there will be a wild hootennany at the barn.Andy Larsen on Checketts show said he thinks there's less than a 50% chance that Conley's back with the Jazz next season.

But is that purely what he thinks, or is that informed with sourced information?Andy Larsen on Checketts show said he thinks there's less than a 50% chance that Conley re-signs with the Jazz.

But also, wouldn’t it just make sense since he is responsible for everything, ultimately? Best case scenario, he simply signs off on all of that hot garbage because he’s lazy. Worst case scenario, he actually put in the work to go unilateral on his staff. Considering that he was just basically shown the door, I think that’s as good evidence as we’re gonna find that it’s more the latter than the former (which gives Quin some vindication for the rigidity of his rotations as well, unfortunately).I listened to this. Didn't have much to add other than with regard to Matt Thomas he said "now that DL is gone Matt Thomas may not be back". Either the remaining front office folks are pining all the bad stuff on DL or this may have been another DL going rogue deal.
Probably. My impression is it's just his opinion.
If this ends up being the case you have to just make massive changes now, and set yourself up to a point you can be great in about 3 years.Andy Larsen on Checketts show said he thinks there's less than a 50% chance that Conley re-signs with the Jazz.
This. And I’ll add one other component to it: Whether Utah stays put at 30, or finds a way to move up a little in the draft, they need to work extremely aggressively to identify a wing 3 and D that Quin will agree to give PT to on day 1.Which is best case scenario at this point. Conley re-signing is what is best for the team. We are going to be worse if he doesn’t re-sign. Use the MLE to go get a wing who can defend and we are right back in the mix for contention.
It would be like when Haywood jilted us and Ekpe, Thabo and Jonas were suddenly walking in the door.If this ends up being the case you have to just make massive changes now, and set yourself up to a point you can be great in about 3 years.
I listened… it sounded like he had no insider knowledge… just that there are lots of other options for him so one option isn’t the overwhelming favorite. He mentioned Dallas/NY and also taking the MLE from the Lakers… which I guess could happen but they’d need to clear Harrell or Kuzma to avoid the apron. I’m sure they’d like to do a Kuzma for Conley sign and trade… I haven’t decided whether that is better than nothing or if I’d rather do nothing. My impression is it's just his opinion.
What about getting picks and re-routing Kuzma thoI listened… it sounded like he had no insider knowledge… just that there are lots of other options for him so one option isn’t the overwhelming favorite. Also, do the Jazz have to receive salary (/Lakers have to send salary) in that deal?
I comprehend what Tony is saying, but it makes zero ****ing sense to fully run it back. You can’t make your playoff lineup matchup proof by making zero ****ing changes to the playoff roster (i.e., running back the same nine player core but swapping out Niang for Batum or someone). You can’t just add some dudes for the minimum and second round rookies/undrafted free agents that Quin will never play to make your team “matchup proof.”Just listened to Tony Jones on the Bill Riley show. Sounds like Niang is really the only rotation guy that he doesn't expect to be back next season. Say's the Jazz feel like they are really close and don't need to make major changes, instead they just need to do some tweaking and refining to the roster. As far as the back end of the roster, Niang and Ilyasova not expected to be back and Matt Thomas could be gone as well, Morgan's chances of coming back are 50/50 at this point. Oni and Hughes both expected to be back, he didn't really mention Brantley, Forrest or Dok.
Agreed. Even if you don’t like Kuz, he could pretty easily be converted into an asset.I still don't understand the Kuzma hate. If the choice is lose Conley for nothing or get Kuzma, you clearly take Kuzma. Our depth and lack of youth are issues. It's illogical not to want another quality player.
We could then look to trade Bogey for help at PG. Bogdon? Sign and Trade for Lonzo? Rozier? Bledsoe and draft assets?

I’m just not sure he’s a tremendously positive asset. Say we keep him and he struggles? Not gonna have a lot of people lining up to trade for him.Agreed. Even if you don’t like Kuz, he could pretty easily be converted into an asset.
This sort of thing will never happen though. It’s just not how the Jazz operate. We will overpay and keep Conley, or will lose Conley for nothing.
No, you just lose Conley and dont send him to the Lakers. If the goal is to win a championship, Conley on the Lakers hurt the Jazz's chances way more than Kuzma on the Jazz helps their chances.I still don't understand the Kuzma hate. Kuzma is a young guy with a chip on his shoulder now. He had a fantastic start to his career then got kind of blindsided by the LeBron show. I'm a LeBron guy, but tell me how he is supposed to fit when you have LeBron and AD while AD refuses to be the center?I’m just not sure he’s a tremendously positive asset. Say we keep him and he struggles? Not gonna have a lot of people lining up to trade for him.
Lakers will want to work with us and so would Mike. They need the money off their books and Mike would want more than MLE.
The conversation was that Conley wanted the Lakers. If he wants it that badly, he can go and we get nothing. No, you just lose Conley and dont send him to the Lakers.
