Jazz Playoff Watch

thanks for pinch-hitting kenwood. yeah, that's basically what i had. i made my projections a month ago, though, so they don't take into account the fact that the team is playing better. sometimes i update my projections based on a team's momentum, other times i don't because of the pendulum notion that a team that steals one is likely to cough one up later to balance things out.

either way, phoenix has the toughest sked at this point. yes, they're all at home, but they face nothing but winning teams.

OKC - the thunder have split their last 10, prompting a "time to pick it up" speech from KD. they'll be ready to win.
LAC - both teams on a back-to-back so you never know. this one could be an extra win for phx that i didn't originally have planned.
DEN - i originally had this one as the lone phoenix win.... but even it could go the other way
@UTA - both teams on 2 days rest. i have this one going utah's way, but who knows.
SAS - depends on the spurs' seeding situation and everything, but this is also the back half of a B2B for the suns, while the spurs will be waiting for them in phoenix.

tonight's playoff-related rooting guide (home team asterisked):

jazz over portland* (obviously)
dallas* over houston
okc over phoenix*

if those three things happen, then the jazz will control their own destiny. win out, they're in. but just for kicks, also root for:

clippers over denver* (because if denver goes 2-3 to finish, the jazz can catch them, too)

What's with Houston having a 5-game losing streak? They're taking themselves out of the picture.
That said, they're likely to win 3 of their last 4. They have a game at Miami that they'll likely lose unless the Heat rest their big 3.

Without having looked at any stats,
I'm starting to think the Dragic phenomenon is very over.

All of these things happened. Things are looking good for the Jazz. If we win out, we could possibly land the #7 seed and avoid a match up against the #1 seed in the West. Remember, we own the tie-breaker with Denver, so, if we finish tied with them, we will get the higher seed in the playoffs (assuming both of us make it). I project Denver to finish 36-30 (wins vs. Orlando and @ Minnesota, losses @ Phoenix and @ OKC). If we win out, we would get the #7 seed.

I hope the Jazz and Suns win outright the rest of the way and Den and Dallas lose out the rest of the way. That gives Utah the 6th seed and Phoenix the 7th or 8th. With Dallas the last playoff spot. Denver and Houston looking in.

I like this. We'd have the Lakers in the first round. Love to be the team to knock them out of the playoffs this year (and many more years to come haha.)

yeah except the suns and jazz can't BOTH win out because they play each other.

Well that last game the Suns need to lose becasue that way Utah wins the better record. You know that.

The Clippers are only 2 games ahead of the Grizzlies for the 4th seed(and the all-important HCA that comes with it) and only half a game behind the Lakers for the 3rd seed. Hopefully they really bring it out against the Suns tonight. Maybe the refs can ignore some obvious offensive fouls on Griffin and give Paul a bunch of phantom calls as they always do.

If Harris and Hayward play like they did last night, the Jazz actually look like a playoff team. If Josh Howard were still available, we'd look like it even more.

Wow NO is up 1 and got the defensive rebound with 16 seconds left and they let Lee steal the ball! At least he missed one and have a chance to hit a game winner

Here's hoping the Clips manage to beat Phoenix in Phoenix. Just will make everything a little easier...
