Jazz Pre-Draft Workouts

Reports out of Sacto had Jimmer playing very well against other players including reports of above average defense and passing. If he goes up against Walker and does well does it start to change anyone's mind about wanting Jimmer on the Jazz? Does it make anyone think that passing on Knight at 3 and taking Jimmer instead more plausible?

So far Jimmer has tested out above average everywhere he's gone and still people have a bad taste in their mouths. What does it take for Jimmer's stock to rise?

What do you mean? All the reports I've read have been very high on Jimmer. If nothing else, he's certainly solidified himself as the #3 PG in the draft, and some mock drafts now have him even as the #2 PG. He's probably not going to last beyond about pick #14, if that long, whereas a couple of weeks ago some mock drafts had him as low as #20.

On the radio this morning they said six guys were working out today. It's got to include Jimmer and Walker, but does anyone know the other four guys? Post 1 of this thread and https://hoopshype.com/workouts.htm both list Paul Carter, so perhaps he's one of the four. But who are the other three guys?

edit: nevermind, I found the info just posted to sltrib: https://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/jazz/52012231-87/fredette-walker-jazz-draft.html.csp

In all, six players participated in the workout. Fredette and Walker were joined Illinois-Chicago forward Paul Carter, Alabama guard Senario Hillman, UCLA guard Malcolm Lee and Kentucky forward Josh Harrellson.

I meant here on Jazzfanz. There are those here that want nothing to do with him regardless of what is being reported.

Everything I've read suggest Jimmer's stock is rising. But all of that is guesswork until draft night.

Probably has more to do with the kid being white, went to BYU, and is a Mormon and the majority of the posters on here only have one thing in common with that.

How about competing for the sake of competing?

Win over a franchise. Win over fans. Prove to you and everyone else who's better.

Today's athlete wants to play as little as possible and earn as much as possible.

What ever happened to WANTING to face competition? If I were Knight, I'd love for the chance to compete against Jimmer, Walker, Dwill, Drose, Westbrook, Lebron, and anyone else who dared get in my way.

As Gordy Chiesa said yesterday on locked on sports, "Shirts vs skins, lace'em up, and play basketball."

I agree with you for the most part. The point is, I am sure, or at least I hope that Knight and Walker and Jimmer want to face each other and beat the tar out of each other, but it just isn't smart to do so. What if Knight rolls an ankle? Then does a team think he is injury prone? What if he plants at a wrong angle and blows out his knee? It just isn't smart for Knight to work out. Working out against Jimmer proves nothing. It won't help him, it only hurts him. Knight has a chance here for 20 million dollars. He would be crazy to risk that to prove nothing.

Kemba, on the other hand, is falling fast. He needs to prove he is better than Jimmer, because right now, some teams look like they like Jimmer more than Kemba. Jimmer can only help himself. If he rocks Kemba, then he jumps, if he doesn't, well, nobody thought he was that good anyways.

I agree with you in principle, in reality there is no reason for Knight to play.

If we had a pick in the high teens or early twenties I would consider Malcolm Lee.

So is Jimmer immune to criticism because he happens to be white, Mormon and a BYU grad?

Not at all. But, when he answers his critics by showing them that he can play defense or is athletic or is strong they still hate on him.

The blatant homerisms is what has me turned off... People that think we need to sell the farm and get Jimmer at all costs. Not to mention he himself thinks he's a "Hybrid of Deron Williams and Steve Nash". Give me a break, I think he'll be lucky to be as successful as Ronnie Price- and that makes me a hater, and I'm spewing blasphemies right?

I think you are the other end of the spectrum. I think for every Jimmer lover there is a Jimmer hater on this board.

LOL...

Now you're saying that he'll be lucky to be as successful as Ronnie Price?

How can anyone give the jimmer haters credibility when they make such ridiculous statements?

I think these types of statements only validate the statement you were responding to.

Has he really showed he can do those things in the NBA yet? I think some people are a little over sensitive when it comes do Jimmer and how he is being analyzed.

I am ok with his athleticism and never really doubted it in college. I always saw him getting by guys so I thought his quickness was fine. I still question his ability to finish simply because in the NBA his lack of jumping ability is going to hurt him when he gets in the lane. I doubt he will be getting as many of the foul calls he got in college. I never heard anyone doubting his strength. You can see how strong he is when he gets contact; however in the NBA there are plenty of strong guys so I will have to wait to see if it translates to the NBA.

The big question mark is his ability to play defense. He hasn't proven that yet. No, I don't consider defending drills as PROOF he can do it. This is fair criticism and isn't because they supposively hate Jimmer. I like the kid and if he can play defense I think he is going to show some people they were wrong. However, the NBA is not college and Jimmer is going to have to adjust. He is not going to get 20+ shots every night. Can he handle it? No one knows until he actually plays in the NBA.

If Knight doesn't work out with Jimmer and Walker ............... he's drafted 3-6
If Knight does work out with Jimmer and Walker and beats them.. he's drafted 3-6
If Knight does work out with Jimmer and Walker and loses to them.. he's drafted 7-13

While i can appreciate the sentiment for a competitor, i can moreso appreciate the business decision.

That's about right from what I've been seeing. Very few middle of the road people who can put aside bias when it comes to drafting Jimmer.

I think Jimmer is an amazing player and I predicted after workouts he'd show better and work his way into the top 10 if the right team was there. Sactown looks like it may be a real possibility. The #7 pick has less to do with the number and more to do with the right team, right time.

Do we sell everything to get him. Hell no. However, to say that you don't want a player because your BYU neighbors won't shut up about him is laughable. I feel so sorry for you......how on earth are you going to survive. If the Jazz take Jimmer and he ends up not translating, you can throw it right back at the "zoobs".

Either way, the Jimmer fanatic's and the zoob whistle blower's opinions are laced with too much emotion to even get a second glance.

Like......f'reels? Really? Please show me the NBA proven guy in this draft or any that has proceeded it.

The blatant stupidity on this board is reaching all time highs with this draft.

See what I'm saying... You think it's an automatic Jimmer will be at least a 6 year pro when the guy hasn't done anything yet? Blasphemy right? It has taken the dude 3 more years than the competition to even get to the NBA draft.
