Jazz Scrimmage Thread

really happy they are streaming the game. its too bad it will be in the middle of the night for me. please post lots of insight as to how beautiful Goberts game is, and how many 3s Hood hits.

I just heard locke on 1280 and he was saying that he thinks that Quin as the coach benefits Burks more than any other player on the offensive end.
I found that strange since quins system seems to focus on passing and stretching the floor...... Not really burks strengths

But all the focus on running the floor and transition absolutely plays into Burks strengths. I have the feeling that we will see Burks catching alot of passes on his cuts to the basket.

I actually agree. This idea that the offense is beneficial to Burks is gaining a lot of traction (heck, Burks himself touted the idea), but he is a one on one ISO specialist who is at his best taking guys off the bounce and getting to the rim - a ball moving Spursesque offense doesn't necessarily fit that type of player great. Having said that, I think Stoked point has some merit as well that if they really do get out in transition more often, that could fit into his ability to run the floor and finish in transition. It will be interesting.

The most interesting thing to me however, will be to see if Quin Snyder has a clue how to be a HC at the NBA level. Many Jazz Fanz seem to be taking it as a given that he will be a good coach and/or an improvement over Corbin - as for me, I have to this team play some actual NBA games before I drink any of the Snyder Kool Aid.

Probably the right approach.

I will say however, that when I went to the other scrimmage I loved the way that Quin, and especially Jones communicated with and tried to teach the players in a very energetic and encouraging way.

Also LOVED the activity level on defense that I saw.
Of course that scrimmage was lacking most of the core guys and vets so take it with a grain of salt

That isn't true in the least, on either accounts (Diaw, Barbosa, and Parker all excel in the same role Burks fits, but with elite passing ability).

It's more likely he'll get perimeter catches when the defense has to turn their back from-and-to him. The scramble will create seems for his elite driving talent.

I'm not saying he won't be utilized in read-react cuts and backdoor action. We don't know how well he can do that but he hasn't shown a great ability to read-react yet. A better point guard would help us find out a lot in that depot.

Agree with that point. Burks can catch and drive to the hoop. We'll also see if he can work some in the pick and roll. Quin likes to utilize it - at least from what I read - all over the court. So it's likely the SG will get some opportunities. He'll force the switch and have some chances to run past the opposing big - or throw the ball outside to Hood for an open 3.

Something tells me Burks is going to come off the bench...still get close to 30 mins, but he'll come in midway through the 1st period.

Burks was 42% from three on catch and shoots. He was also 2nd on the team on all catch and shoot situations at 53%. I think he'll excel.

When does the scrimmage start? 90 min from now? Jazz site somehow doesn't like including timezones in their press releases

I stopped reading when you compared Diaw's game to Burks' game. Sorry, just being honest!
He said they are both used as iso playmakers at times, the difference being Diaw is bigger and a superior passer.

Every team uses isolations when it's the best option. Hence all the big Al isolations back in the day.

Franklin's *** contains more basketball knowledge than your lineage on both sides.

White team: Exum, Burks, Hayward, Kanter, Murphy, Rudy, Novak, Cooley
Blue team: Burke, Hood, Favors, Evans, Booker, Murry, Motum, Bost, Jones

Supposedly at least.
