SMH....

Typically a scorer is referring to somebody who can score in a multitude of ways. So yes, Klay Thompson is a shooter. Kyle Korver is a shooter. Pretty simple concept.

Yeah, autocorrect gets me every time.

So would you say that Kareem is not a scorer because he did not score from 3 and did not run the floor. (Do a google search for "top scorer nba history" for me, will you?). Mostly a bunch of sky hooks. Dwight Howard, shaq, not scorers.....can't hit a free throw to save their life.

Final point is that Ian seemed to have some nice moves to the basket.....so I'd say the jury is out.

Umm...Kareem did score in a multitude of ways. Low-post moves, sky hook, he got to the free throw line, dunks off of rebounds.

Even though Shaq and Dwight couldn't hit FT's worth a ****, they still got to the line a lot. What I'm trying to say is that a jumpshot was not their only way of producing points, like it is with these other guys.

Anyways, most people wouldn't refer to Dwight as a scorer, they would call him a low-post scorer, same with Shaq. There's a difference between what they did and what somebody like Jordon/LeBron/Kobe did though.

My first thought on Clark is this:

Rush, Hayward, Clark.........................Burks.

We have 4 SG's on this team. Three are similar in style (defense, shooting) and one is different (slasher). I think we are starting to see what Lindsey wants out of his wings and who he is talking about when he says he doesn't like the term "core 4" because one might not be here too much longer.

I agree with your definition of a multi-dimensional scorer like Kobe, etc. (probably only a few in the league, since most players have a few "go to" moves where they score 80% of their points).

I disagree that the term "scorer" -- when used by players/ coaches/ media/ fans -- always connotes a player who is a "multi-diminsional scorer" -- it usually means the people who score the most points by whatever means. For example, from google search: "Al Jefferson is an efficient scorer...." "Al Jefferson has been a consistent scorer" And we know how often Big Al scored from the line or on 3s. He is clearly not multidimensional. And clearly there are some who call him a "scorer"

Fwiw, Hantlers is correct. The generally used term among basketball staffs, scouts, and the players themselves is shooter vs. scorer.
Scorer means mutli-dimensional. We're not debating dictionary definitions here, but rather industry vernacular.

Jefferson is multidimensional. He has a low-post game and a jump-shooting game.

True, in some contexts it is meant to mean a multidimensional scorer.

If I would ask you "who was the Jazz leading scorer last year" most people would answer "Al Jefferson"

But would some people who believe that Big Al was not multi-dimensional scorer (no 3s, very few FTs) would they say "Gordon Hayward"?

The way the term scorer is used is not absolute, it is subjective and depends on context.
