What's new

Jazz starting 5

We once saw Ostertag at Century 16 wearing a frumpy homemade sweater that was two sizes too small, and ratty sweatpants that looked like capris. He didn't even have enough effort to dress himself properly.

Anyone who puts Kanter or Favors in the same breath as Eaton never watch Mark in his younger days. Dude blocked 4 shots per game. If you want more offense, I can listen to that argument, but these two are miles and miles behind Eaton defensively.

Not to mention Eaton did this in a day when illegal defense was far more strict than it is today.

I'd take AD over AK by a mile.

With a backcourt of Stockton and Williams I want a defensive force backing them up. This team has a lethal combo of great offense and defense. If we didn't have a guy like Malone for offense I'd have gone with AD. Malone is the greatest offensive pf of all time, so put a defensive player next to him.

Plus, I think people forget how good AK was before he got paid. This team will score and keep people from scoring.

Why would you do that? AK was >>>>> more complete player and would fit way better with Stockton and Malone then AD. Think this way. If Jazz had AK in his prime during finals or AD - which team would had better chances at defeating Bulls? AD was better offensive player by mile for sure, but Jazz did not lose because they lacked offense. AK in his prime would have done much better job on Jordan then Russell or Horny did.

Well I also don't think a backcourt of Deron and Stockton is very effective FWIW. They both need the ball in their hands and they both initiate the offense. Deron never impressed me much off of the ball. So playing him with stockton is a waste. He's a better player than Hornacek so I did not point out that one. But AD was better than AK so I did point out that one. You either have to go with Stockton, Hornacek, AK, Malone and Eaton. Or you need to go with Stockton, Williams, AD, Malone and Eaton. One would be our best lineup. The other is the best players. At least that's my opinion. Having AK or AD on that finals roster makes it far more likely they win the title.

If you don't have Pistol Pete as a starter you are automatically disqualified.

Was thinking the same thing. This board must be full of teens and in their 20s

Also those who are saying Favors over Eaton crack me up. Yes the game has changed but Eaton was a beast on the defensive end. Most only remember him when his knees were shot.

Stockton
Pistol Pete
AD
Malone
Eaton

Horny
DWill
AK
Jeff Malone
Big T
Griffith
Favors
Jefferson
Millsap

This would be my team in no order on the bench.

I'm almost 40 and never saw him play. So to have seen him play you don't need to be in your 20's. You just don't have to be old as dirt. :)
.
Also Pistol Pete did not play much for the "UTAH JAZZ"

Stockton
Pete
AK
Malone
Favors

When you've got that much offense, it's nice to have a defender/facilitator like AK. Dantley was a ball stopper.

pg stockton, green, Dwill
sg Pistol, griffith, horny (tough one)
sf Ak, AD (AD didnt know how to pass)
PF malone, boozer, Baily
c eaton, chambers, keefe (got to have a redheaded stepchild for sloan to put in the dog house)

Stockton
Pistol Pete
AK
Malone
Eaton (Though I think Kanter will be the best Jazz C. Just not yet.)

People are seriously underrating Eaton here. The man was a 2-time DPOY, 3-time All-NBA Defensive 1st team selection, one-time All-Star, and a defensive presence par excellence. He had a 4-season stretch at one point of his career where he averaged 4.6 blocks a game. Four-point-six blocks a game! That is absolutely, positively ridiculous. No player in the NBA has average even 4 blocks a game in almost 2 decades. Hell, Andrew Bogut led the league with paltry two-and-a-half blocks a game not so long ago.

In a league where someone gave JaVale "Shaqtin' the Fool" McGee and DeAndre "What the **** is a free throw" Jordan 11 million a year, prime Eaton would be a max player.

So here's my more serious list (aiming for a balanced team):

Stockton / Williams
Hornacek / Russell
AK (pre-2007) / Harpring
Malone / Millsap / Carr
Eaton / Okur / Collins

I didn't include Maravich because I never saw him play and isn't include Dantley because, though I may have seen him play, I was like 5. I think the addition of plenty of role players makes this a solid, balanced team. I almost booted Andrei off the list for being such a weeny.

Eaton was never enough to push Malone and Stock over the top. He was a defensive force, but always lacking offensively.

Stockton / Williams
Hornacek / Russell / Korver
Charles Barkley / Harpring
Malone / Millsap / Carr
Eaton / Okur

I've updated my list from above because I could no longer feel good about AK.
