Jazz team statistics

NBA.com has some amazing new stats.

Coach Snyder has preached "playing with a pass" well it seems we are at least living up to the passing part of that. Right now we are overwhelmingly leading the league in passes per game at 389 per game. The average is almost 100 passes per game below that. Those passes aren't translating to assist or points yet.

We are in the middle of the pack for most of the team statics right now. Passings, and drives are the two that we are at up at the top for.

I love what NBA.com is doing with Player Tracking and stats. I just found out the other day you can literally watch any stat a player recorded by just clicking on the stat in the box score or on their profile.

The passing statistic is awesome, and a good indicator that we aren't hitting our shots is that we only have 19 assists a game but 46 assist opportunities a game. Seems like the biggest discrepancy out of all the teams.

We are 6th in "Assist opportunities per game" as well. That means we mostly create our shots through passing game. That's encouriging but also a result of us lacking a star player.

Nevertheless, thanks for the heads up OP, this are some good and interesting stats to follow, I will track it as the season progresses.

There are other interesting stats on that team tracking page, such as speed, distances traveled, drives and pullup shooting.

Passing and drives. So we pass a lot then since we are bad at clock management we end up with someone driving and trying to do something with it off the cuff, which explains our low number of assists with so many passes and our high drive rates.

In terms of the team stats, we're not shooting as well as our opponents, but we're outrebounding them. Assists are almost equal as are steals. Slightly behind on blocks and averaging more TO's. Incredibly, the Jazz are averaging only 17 fouls per game vs. 20 for opponents. I remember the days the Jazz led the league in fouls.

What I like best thus far is having 5 players in double figures each of the first 3 games. Jazz are sharing the scoring; that makes the team tough to defend.

Is there a way to compare that information with last years? I mean, I realize we have a small sample size on the after.

I know we passed a lot last year too. We used Favors/Kanter as a swing man at the top of the 3pt line a lot more than most teams did plus we had no star that dominated the ball.

Nope they are leading the league in turnovers! What is Quinn doing maybe if they do not give ball to other team they will not have worst defenses in NBA! Quinn needs to take control of this team hes clearly lost it.

The team he's lost? Give me a break. A young team going from never moving the ball to moving it like crazy is going to get a lot of turnovers while they grow into this system. Thats not the least bit surprising. To say Quin has lost the team is idiotic.

This. Since we are passing the ball WAY more than the league average, it makes sense we'd have more turnovers. It'll get better, but for now the passing itself is a great thing. It means they're a team. This is why our scoring has been balanced - sharing the ball.

Swing pass create more turnover? Chortle. Stop make excuse!

Quinn has lost this team like the preacher lose his daughter. They both put out with no defenses.

Care to provide a link to backup your claim? Here, I'll give you one:

Through 4 games, Utah is averaging 15.2 TO's. Is that too high? Yes, I'm sure Quin would like to cut that down to 12 or less. But how does that compare to the rest of the league? Unless I'm reading these stats wrong...Jazz are actually 13th in the league on a per game basis. Not only are they not the WORST, they're in the top half of the league in FEWEST TO's.

I know who has clearly lost it and his name isn't Quin.

I see a lot of broken promises. Quin promised that the main focus this year will be on defense. In reality, Utah is the 4th in the offensive efficiency and 29th in the defensive efficency (we are worse than last year but, mercifully, the Lakers are so horrible that they fell below us). Snyder has never been a good defensive coach and it shows. Considering that we lost devensive liabilities in Williams and Jefferson, while giving solid minutes to Exum and Gobert ... bad, just bad.

And, in case someone points out that we played good offensive teams - yes, we did, but our defense so far has been on another level of sucktitude. I looked up the opponents effective FG% on basketball reference: 62% for Kanter, 61% for Burks, 57% for Hayward and Burke. To put it in perspective, in 2013-14 season only 10 players had the eFG% of 57% or higher. LeBron had 61%, Curry - 57%. So, so far Kanter and Burks' opponents played on the LeBron's level, and Hayward and Burke's - on the level of Curry. This is totally unacceptable.
